Is this name too cringe?

I love the name [name_u]August[/name_u] for a boy, but my name is [name_f]Summer[/name_f]… I’m about 50/50 on whether it’s just too much to have my son’s name be so closely related to mine. Thoughts?

It’s beautiful! I would use it even if my name was [name_f]Summer[/name_f], you’ll both have lovely names, or possibly you could use [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]? If you’re still unsure maybe use it as a middle?

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps, no matter what your beautiful son will have a lovely name!

I really like the name [name_u]August[/name_u]! There shouldn’t be anything wrong with it. It’s kind of cute, but not overly. And it’s not like everyone is going to know both of your names for the rest of your lives. I say go for it

I’d say you’ll get some people who comment on it but I wouldn’t let it stop you from using it. [name_u]August[/name_u] is a great name. I don’t think it’s any more cringe-inducing than [name_m]Fred[/name_m] Sr. & little [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m]. Plus, as previous people mentioned, the number of people who will know both of your names and use them both regularly will probably be smaller than you think (especially as he gets older), and be mostly close friends and family anyways. So unless you think you’re family will poke fun at you for it and you don’t want that, I wouldn’t worry too much.

It’s absolutely not too much! I think it’s super cute actually. You’ll get some comments on it, sure, but you can always say it was an happy coincidence. [name_u]August[/name_u] is a lovely name for a little boy!

I don’t think it’s weird at all, and I doubt most people would even notice anyway.

If you wanted to name him [name_u]Winter[/name_u], that might be a little much.

That’s really cute. I have a word surname and I love the idea of a word first name, especially one that ties together with the surname. My middle name is a word as well and it ties to my surname (very Valentines-esque), I love it!

I think it’s fine! It’s like a subtle little connection without being over the top

I agree with this!

I personally associate the two names together, but that’s mostly because I know of identical twin girls named [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u]. I don’t think it would be that odd for parent and child to have similar names, my name is [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], my sister’s middle is [name_f]Anne[/name_f], and my mum’s name is [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] (all three are derived from [name_f]Channah[/name_f]), and no one’s said it was weird. The only time I think it would be would be if the names were super similar, which I don’t think [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u] are.

I think it’s fine

I like it and I think it’s a sweet connection between the two of you!

I don’t think it’s cringe. A little theme-y maybe but not cringeworthy. Quite cute actually! And honestly month aside, [name_u]August[/name_u] is a great name!

If it worries you, going with [name_m]Augustine[/name_m]/[name_m]Augustin[/name_m] or [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] would lend a little distance from the summery vibe but I don’t think you need to.

Not too close, not at all. I would definitely use it

Here in Down Under, [name_u]August[/name_u] has no connection to summer, as [name_u]August[/name_u] is in [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. Name your baby with the names you love.

Thank you so much for your help! Especially for all of the great suggestions. Many of the names listed are some of my favorites.

I agree with this comment!

I didn’t notice any correlation between the two, then realised I live in the southern hemisphere where [name_u]August[/name_u] is a winter month  Both lovely names though, I would go for it.

I think that’s a sweet connection! People will pick up on it, I’m sure, but it’s not a negative thing so I think it’s fine.

I would go for it. You should own it.
If anyone ever comments, say “yes his name is connected to mine to remind him that he grew in me and I birthed him”. I mean, ahem, that’s how I’d play it! It’s nice to have that connection.
