I love the name [name]Sparrow[/name] for a girl but my Hubby thinks its too ‘out there’. I’ll take any feedback.
I actually really love it! Never heard that before. It is out there, but definitely name-worthy.
[name]Robin[/name]'s a name, after all.
I generally don’t think any name is too unusual.
But, in this case, I think [name]Sparrow[/name] would work better as a middle name. But, as times are changing, within a few years, it will most likely work lovely as a first name.
I quite like it as a first name now, it’s just the majority of society’s population that’s a problem.
I like it as a middle, but I wouldn’t want to introduce myself as “[name]Sparrow[/name].” to me it conjures a thin, fragile person. And if I needed to lose a few pounds or be very strict or demanding, I feel like that name wouldn’t fit.
I think it’s fine for a fn, but it might be better for a mn because it’s hard to tell how it will wear with time-- even if a 5 yo likes being named [name]Sparrow[/name], a 40 yo may not or vice versa.
I don’t think it’s too unusual, but I do think it’s too unconventional, if you get my distinction.
I agree with previous comments, probably better as a mn, you could always use it as a nn then anyway. Could sound really sweet coupled with a first name that starts with ‘S’ & a second mn: [name]Stella[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] ____
I think it is fine! It is not as common as [name]Robin[/name] but not as rare as something like [name]Lark[/name]. I thin [name]Sparrow[/name] would make a lovely girl’s name.
I like [name]Sparrow[/name] the way I really like the name [name]Meadow[/name] and [name]Willow[/name], but I think it sounds too much like sorrow for me to fully get behind it.
I don’t think it is too unusual - it is very similiar to other names such as [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] which are both becoming more popular.
It certainly isn’t as mainstream as [name]Robin[/name], but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
My only concern would be it’s recent use for celebrity baby boy [name]Sparrow[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Midnight[/name] ([name]Joel[/name] [name]Madden[/name] and [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name]) which might put this name more into the “boys” category or see it shoot up in popularity.
What Peach said. I also agree with others’ reservations, but to me as pp said it seems boyish now (PLUS there is Capt. [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name], from the Pirates of the Caribbean series) and also celebu-baby. I do see the appeal, but think it is better in the middle.
I think it is pretty. [name]Wren[/name] is my favorite bird name.
I think [name]Sparrow[/name] would be better as a middle name, honestly. I do see the appeal but I can’t imagine anyone but an artsy, nature-oriented woman named [name]Sparrow[/name].
If I met a [name]Sparrow[/name] I would wonder if their parents were inspired by [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name] since thats her child’s name. Thats the downside of celebs using unique names
I love it! I don’t think it’s too unusual, and I will probably use it someday meself perhaps. Go for it, it’s an awesome name!
[name]Sparrow[/name] is sweet, but I would prefer it as a middle name or a nickname.
I love [name]Sparrow[/name], and always thought it was more girly than boyish. And I think that a little [name]Sparrow[/name] would fit in with all the little [name]Meadow[/name]'s, [name]Paisley[/name]'s etc. But I would caution you to think it through, after all it’s your child who has to live with this name. Try to imagine [name]Sparrow[/name] in med school, [name]Sparrow[/name] as a lawyer, [name]Sparrow[/name] as a teacher, going to the grocery store, meeting people for the first time. And if you feel the name works, go for it, but if you run into a situation where you feel the name is inappropriate or embarrassing, don’t. (though I really do love [name]Sparrow[/name] :P)
It’s not exactly my style, but I don’t think it’s too out there. Try it out in a few real life scenarios and see how you react to it. Could your daughter become Dr. [name]Sparrow[/name] ___? Would you feel okay yelling for [name]Sparrow[/name] on a playground?
[name]LOVE[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]! I’m not gutsy enough to use it as a FN but I think it’d be an adorable MN. My mom started this tradition in my family that she gave all her children animal-like nicknames (butterfly, hummingbird, dragonfly, ladybug, etc.), and I have always wanted to continue it. I’d always thought that my nn for my first daughter would be “[name]Sparrow[/name]”. It has such a sweet sound and I loved imagining writing notes to “my sweet little sparrow” or whatever, haha. Then, as the others have mentioned, [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name] used it for her son, and I could never see it the same. I might still use it, or maybe I won’t. I haven’t decided yet, but I was so bummed when they used it for their son. It was such a girls’ name to me! Now I can’t help but think of the celeb baby.
I would love to see someone use it, though–if you have the guts, go ahead! It’s such a sweet name and I would love to see it get more attention for the girls.
