So, I’m working on an idea for NaNoWriMo. The problem? I have found the perfect name! However, J.K. Rowling has, too. So is [name]Hermione[/name] usable anymore? Or will it be forever linked to the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] series?
Depends on how you’re using it. If you’re writing sci-fi or fantasy, personally I’d avoid using it simply because of the H.P. connotation. If it’s another genre, then by all means, use it.
It is fantasy-ish. [name]Do[/name] you think mythology-ish (kind of like the [name]Percy[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] series) would be too close to fantasy?
Wow, that is kind of cutting it close! Best of luck for NaNoWriMo, not the easiest of challenges I think it depends. Is the character similar to the HP character? Which mythological creatures are you using? I might back off of a Cerberus or dragons for sure, or if you use a Hippogriff or Basilisk too heavily. If you use griffons and the gods and such other things Rowling didn’t use it should be fine.
I’m going to be using the olympians and nymphs.
I think it depends on the time and place of the story. If it takes place in ancient Greece, then I think it is a perfectly acceptable name. If you are writing about a girl in a modern time, I think its usable, but perhaps mention somewhere in the story that the parents were [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fans. Idk.
