Is this name usable?

I have been really liking the name [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (and love nn [name_m]Bas[/name_m] or Bash) - but I’m not sure if I should use it or not. I have a couple small reservations:

Issue #1 - Is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] too tied to the crab in [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid? I’m afraid it’s the only connection some of my family members will have with the name.

Issue #2 - My cousin and his wife adopted a baby named [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], but they thought it was weird and changed it to something else.

So what do you think? Should I use it or keep looking?

My cousin named their son [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] and nobody batted an eyelid.

It’s a name that seems to be rising in popularity and I think it’s perfectly fine to use. It’s a legitimate, well recognised name that isn’t made up or unique. There are lots of cute nickname options and nobody has a problem saying it. I say if you like it, go for it. People will get used to it.

No I like it, and it seems to be popular enough that the crab won’t be their only association. [name_m]Bas[/name_m] is my favourite nickname for it as well (never liked [name_m]Seb[/name_m])

If the baby’s name isn’t now [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], I think the name is now fair game and you’re fine to use it

I’m personally not a fan, because the crab ruined for me. But if you love it, there’s no reason not to go ahead.

I love. It. We recently met a [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], really cute. My husband however thinks it’s hideous and my mum thinks it’s a bit femenine, but it’s up to you. If you love it use it.

NMS but perfectly usable.

[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is a cute name! I don’t think it’s too tied to the Disney movie at all–I know plenty of little Sebastians. The second issue doesn’t seem like much of an issue if they changed the name. Go for it!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! It’s a classy, handsome name (that happens to be very popular where I live) and I think you should go with it. I don’t think of the crab at all, and since the baby’s name is now something else, I think you’re fine there. Good luck!
