[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! So I’m incredibly indecisive with everything, so obviously with baby names I’m 100 times worse and I need some help choosing from people who will be impartial and won’t just agree with me to spare my feelings, but I thought of the name combo [name_f]Electra[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] tonight and I’m really liking it… but I can’t decide whether or not it’s weird.
Is the double E too much? Is [name_f]Electra[/name_f] a bit too out there? I was thinking of [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for a cute nickname because I’m a sucker for nicknames.
Any feedback would be appreciated because sometimes I go through phases of loving names and hating them a year later & I’m actually thinking about naming a real child now so I can’t really do that!x
I like it. I would love meeting a little girl named [name_f]Electra[/name_f]. I’m not brave enough to use it, but for those who are it’s kind of badass and also fun. However, keep in mind the two big connections people will make is with the [name_f]Marvel[/name_f] comic book character who was kind of good/evil/assassin and [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Electra[/name_f], who is many things but people tend to remember the Playboy model connection most.
However…I think this name can overcome those associations. You would have to decide.
My first association is [name_f]Electra[/name_f] from the Oresteia. She has quite a lot of family baggage in the story! I think that would stop me using it, but the name itself is pretty cool.
I would not use this name, as there is the term “[name_f]Electra[/name_f] complex” in psychology. It is the female version of the [name_m]Oedipus[/name_m] complex - a girl competing with her mother to essentially wanting to marry her father. This renders the name unusable to me and would be like using the name [name_m]Oedipus[/name_m] for a boy.
Yeah it is weird but it’s kind of really cool. The nickname makes it wearable, it’s totally badass, and it reminds me of my favorite bad superhero movie… [name_f]Elektra[/name_f].
[name_m]Just[/name_m] makes me kinda wonder what her siblings would be named. [name_f]Electra[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Tesla[/name_f] [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], Agamemnon [name_m]Angus[/name_m], Orestez [name_m]Orrin[/name_m]. Ugh I’m having so much fun digging for names. Orestez is [name_f]Elektra[/name_f]'s brother in the comics, I guess??
Also, I stumbled across the name Elektrine which I thought was neat.
I know a little girl called [name_f]Electra[/name_f] and I’ll be honest, the first time I met her I did do a little double-take. A little kid saying “hi my name’s [name_f]Electra[/name_f]” was kind of surprising. It’s such an… X-Men name.
Having said that, as I’ve got to know her, she is a feisty bold little thing who knows exactly what she wants, and I think it fits her perfectly. It definitely isn’t a “shrinking violet” name!
I don’t think it’s weird! I actually have a friend named [name_f]Electra[/name_f]- she’s fifteen, and as far as I know has never had any issues with her name. It’s very cool, and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] makes great nicknames. [name_u]Lex[/name_u] or [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] could also work for other options.
I like the suggestion of [name_f]Elettra[/name_f] quite a lot. No more negative associations but still feels extremely similar to [name_f]Electra[/name_f].
I find [name_f]Electra[/name_f] to be a rather eccentric name but I do like it. I don’t care for the negative associations like the [name_f]Electra[/name_f] Complex but I think the name is still usable. [name_f]Elettra[/name_f] is beautiful too.
I kind of love it although I’d be surprised at first if I met someone called it. I do think it would be an awful name to have if you were very shy so needs someone bold and spunky to carry it
