My great-grandmother had a lot of names. She was born [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] but went by her middle name all her life. She had her maiden name, her married name, and then 30 years after my great-grandfather died she re-married. Neither her maiden name or married name are usable as first names, but her second married name was [name_f]Rubie[/name_f]. I’ve been trying to find a way to honor her, and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is the only thing I can think of that I like. Is that weird to use the last name of someone she was married to but isn’t a blood relative? He died when I was 7 and I hardly knew him, but the rest of my relatives liked him a lot. It just feels a little weird to me and like I’m not really honoring her all that well. What do you think? Should I try to work with [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] or [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (her MN)? I like [name_f]Zara[/name_f] as a middle name but [name_f]Laura[/name_f]/[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]/[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] is not my style. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] I love both as a FN or MN.
I don’t think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] would be an odd honor name. I like the idea!
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sallie[/name_f]
I think if it reminds you of her then it is a perfectly fine honor name, especially as you actually like the name itself.
