I’m working on my top five for each gender. [name]Malachi[/name] nn [name]Kai[/name] has been on my shortlist for a long time now, and I’ve finally found a middle that speaks to me: [name]Sparrow[/name]! [name]Sparrow[/name] was on my middle list for [name]Caspian[/name] but they just seemed too over the top together…there’s no “normal” in that name for the child to fall back on if he isn’t a fringe element like his parents
[name]Malachi[/name] has that familiarity and strength, and I think [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] just flows!
My problem is that I already have [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] on my shortlist. I think both animals are equally beautiful and powerful, but it has been pointed out to me that a child might feel slighted if he’s the [name]Sparrow[/name] to his brother’s [name]Wolf[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you think it’s bad form to have [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] and [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] in the same sibset? [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Sparrow[/name] will feel inferior to [name]Wolf[/name]? Does the Pirates of the Caribbean character, [name]Captain[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name], offset a potential inferiority complex? I mean, wolf vs. pirate is pretty evenly matched, right?
Thank you, Berries!
[name]Don[/name]'t worry, you two can’t possibly make a “normal” baby ;)!
Eh, I wouldn’t worry. Sparrows are cool, and you’ve got the pirate (and JD!) association, how could he feel inferior? They’re quite different names, though, [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] is much more fun and circus like, [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] sounds like a archaeology professor. Anyways, they’re both flock animals! I think it works nicely, but I think [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] is a little brother name.
I think that Sparrows and Wolves go together nicely. The only fights will be petty or selfish over something like this so I wouldn’t worry. Plus…Sparrows can fly which out competes being a wolf for sure.
Let me begin with how AWESOME your name choices are. [name]Malachi[/name] nn [name]Kai[/name]? Definitely adding that to my list! I think you have the right idea about having a slightly more normal name with an unusual name to have balance. However, when I think of [name]Sparrow[/name], I think of [name]Captain[/name] [name]Jack[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] like you pointed out instead of the bird.
- [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]: This is a BEAUTIFUL combo.
With it’s sibset you want: [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Wolf[/name], I think [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] would be absolutely perfect with it. (: They both have a powerful and attractive ring to them. A wolf and pirate is also a badass team
Name the eldest brother [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]…he’ll be bigger and able to deal with the upstart little [name]Wolf[/name]…
Otterlily – Haha you make a valid point! Hubs and I are convinced that we’ll have three or four fringe babies, and just when we’re lulled into thinking that we’ve got this parenting thing down pat, lo and behold, we’ll bring forth a cheerleader.
My thinking on [name]Sparrow[/name] is quite the same! Who could say no to a piratical [name]Johnny[/name] Depp association? I just think there’s something so irresistibly happy about [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name]…circus-like is a good word. I like the little boy vibe too… like a Sessha-fied [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Robin[/name]!
whirlicue – flying is a good trump card, haha. I would hope my kids won’t try to one-up each other like that, but we’re all human, and little boys can be competitive.
makayla – Thank you! I’m so glad you like them! It took me a while to get the place where I see the wisdom of pairing all of my exotic favorites with more “normal” names instead of with each other. My friend described it to me like fonts. You can’t throw all your fancy curlicue fonts into one document, because that’s just confusion. You need a strong base font to make the fancy one really shine to its true potential. She has a great point! Plus if my kids aren’t as adventurous and fantasy-loving as I am, they may want something “normal” to fall back on. And I wouldn’t call [name]Malachi[/name] “normal” in the sense of being common, but it is familiar and has a strong history…which is about all the “normal” I can handle
You’re so right, a wolf and a pirate IS a badass team. I like that much better than the idea of them competing over whose name is better!
missmolly – This made me laugh out loud! Upstart [name]Wolf[/name] indeed. I do think of [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name] as the youngest though…there’s something irrepressibly [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] about him. And as we know, [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] takes no sh!t
Thank you, Berries, for allaying my fears! I think this name has been officially moved to the short list, and I am well on my way to having my solid top five! <3
