Is this spelling common?

Hello!!
I just want to know what you all think of this name!!

My cousin just had her baby and she named him Aadam. (pronounced [name_m]Adam[/name_m]) First I thought it was a typo when she e-mailed me his birth announcement, but she spelled it Aadam on everything else. (like facebook and the actual birth announcement on paper, etc…)

So, my question is, is this another way to spell [name_m]Adam[/name_m]? Is this normal? Does anyone know anybody named [name_m]Adam[/name_m] with spelling??

Thanks in advanced!!!

Although Aadam just looks like a typo to me, I think it is an accepted spelling of [name_m]Adam[/name_m], possibly Arabic.

I’ve never seen it. Maybe they liked the double a look of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] so used it for Aadam? Did you ask her? I don’t think it’s rude to ask where the double a’s comes from.

It looks like a misspelling to me too. I would assume that the double A’s mean something. Maybe she has a family member named [name_m]Aaron[/name_m] and it was a way of honoring him. I don’t think it’s rude to ask how they decided on the name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t tell her it’s misspelled or say anything negative. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s odd looking [name_m]Adam[/name_m] is still a nice name to see on a baby now a days.

I’ve never seen [name_m]Adam[/name_m] spelled with AA. Maybe it is a play on [name_m]Aaron[/name_m].

I don’t know anything about origins of names, so for all I know, it could be a legitimate spelling. However, I don’t like it - it’s obviously not common and even if he’s the only Aadam out of fourteen other [name_m]Adams[/name_m], he’ll still have to be called Aadam B. or whatever. I don’t see what’s wrong with [name_m]Adam[/name_m] that way.

I’ve only ever seen it as an alternative spelling in baby name books. Maybe she read one too many of those baby name books? [name_m]Just[/name_m] teasing. It is NMS ([name_m]Adam[/name_m] is a nice enough name on its own… why mess with the spelling?) But it is the parents’ prerogative to spell it any way they wish.

It’s the Arabic/Muslim equivalent of [name_m]Adam[/name_m]. Possibly a nod to family heritage?

I have never seen it before but as some past posters have said it could be a mix between [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and [name_m]Aaron[/name_m].
