My SO and I like the name [name_f]Keira[/name_f]… but he has a cousin named Keirsten. I think it may be too close for us to use, he thinks it is ok. We have thrown out other names because of family having names similar. Examples…
We like… [name_u]Halle[/name_u], [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] and [name_u]Camden[/name_u]
but we have family members named… [name_u]Cali[/name_u], [name_f]Caylee[/name_f] and [name_u]Cameron[/name_u].
What do you think? [name_f]Keira[/name_f] and Keirsten too much?
I have a cousin named Keirsten and I don’t think [name_f]Keira[/name_f] is too close especially considering that they’re going to be second cousins. I would say if they were siblings it is a bit much, but realistically, will they be around each other 24/7? I’m assuming there’s a big age gap so it’s not like they’re going to go to school together. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if they were, I think you’re fine. The “a” ending and “sten” ending really set them apart.
I don’t think it’s that close. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see this cousin very often? [name_m]Even[/name_m] so, the names aren’t all that similar. At one point, I really liked the name [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (after The [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Compass), but FI’s sister is [name_f]Kira[/name_f] (pronounced like [name_f]Keira[/name_f])…now that is too close, as we see her quite often. I really love the name [name_f]Keira[/name_f] and I think it’s gorgeous.
[name_f]Keira[/name_f] is gorgeous and it would be a shame not to use it, especially if you both love it. I don’t think it’s too close for cousins. Siblings or your best friend’s children, yes. Cousins, no.
I agree - they’re not too close. They would be too close for siblings, but that’s about it. If you see this cousin all the time, she might interpret it as an honour name; if you don’t, it will probably just feel like a coincidence.
