Is this too dorky?

Hey all!

[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] has recently popped up in my signature, but it’s no recent love. When I was a kid I created this elaborate fantasy country (complete with a map + tumultuous path to victory) and I named it… [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]. At the time, I had never heard of the name before and I thought it was this uber-cool ultra-rare never-used name. (I found it in a baby name book).

I guess I feel awkward potentially using a name that for me is so connected to my childhood game ([name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] the country was in full swing for about 3 years); is it endearing or too weird to reuse on an actual person in the future? If your middle or first name had this backstory, would you find it odd or funny?

Let me know

I wouldn’t call it dorky. [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a beautiful name with a great meaning. If I was a girl that was given this name because my parents loved it, and my mom had this extra story behind it, I would appreciate it even more. It could be a secret little story just between parents and child and those they choose to share it with. Stories like these make parents more real to their children.

Not dorky  the name means/meant something to you.

If you were my mother and told me that story, I’d think it was a cool story and sweet that you named me after something that was important to you before, for quite awhile. Honestly, my mom did something slightly similar. She had a rather hard life growing up and got married/had kids straight out of high school. She was used to using TV shows as an escape. One of her favorite shows was Who’s the [name_m]Boss[/name_m]? and she loved the character [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] was everything she wanted to be -smart, funny, beautiful, loved- things she really was :frowning: anyhow, the show lasted for several seasons and ended just before I was born. She held onto her feelings for the character during her pregnancy and named me after the actress who played [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. Some said it was silly but it meant something to her, which means it means something to me  I fully agree with @lovemysweeties…stories like this behind names do make parents more real to their children!

I don’t think it’s weird at all! I used to call all of my Barbies [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_u]Skylar[/name_u] and [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] growing up, all the time, making games out of them. I loved the names and it made me happy to use them when playing.

I think any name with a nice childhood connection is positive to be honest.

I think it’s an adorable story. Not dorky at all.

I think it’s cute. If it were an incredibly made-up name I might side-eye, but [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is lovely – slightly dorky story or no ;).

I agree what a winner. It does help that [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] is a glorious name anyway but the story is everything that PPs have said.

Thank you guys!! This really helps
