My favorite nickname if we have a boy is [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. I’m torn, however, as to how we get there…
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m]?
I lean toward [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] for his history and gravity, it suits our last name better, but is that a lot to foist on a person? I assume he will always be [name_m]Archie[/name_m] but will he be cringing on the first day of school every year when the teacher calls out “[name_m]Archibald[/name_m]?” I’d love to think that a name like [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] will by nature make its bearer confident.
[name_m]Archer[/name_m] is infinitely more handsome to me, but strikes me a trendy name and therefore less solid than [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. I would feel better about giving my son an approachable name like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] if he ever wants to drop the [name_m]Archie[/name_m] moniker, but it may not suit our last name, [name_f]Summers[/name_f], because of the double -er ending.
What do you think? Is there another way to [name_m]Archie[/name_m]?
Between [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], I much prefer [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. I adore [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. You could just use [name_m]Archie[/name_m] as a full name. He could go by [name_m]Archie[/name_m] or [name_m]Arch[/name_m].
I wouldn’t go with [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. I remember on my first day of [name_m]Driver[/name_m]'s [name_m]Ed[/name_m]. there was a guy named [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. During roll call, we all kinda looked at each other like… “what kinda name is that?” And the guy pretty much said, “For the love of God, call me [name_m]Archie[/name_m]”. He hated his name because the reactions he got all the time.
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m] I think is a bit much. I probably wouldn’t be too bothered by meeting an [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], but I’m not sure how non Namenerds would react, particularly children. So I would go with [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. Yes, it’s a bit trendy at the moment, but that does not stop it from being an awesome name (I personally love archery), that easily lends itself to [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. I love [name_m]Archie[/name_m], as a full name too, and have it as my preferred nickname for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_m]Artemus[/name_m]. And I think Archer works fine with your surname.
I see what you mean about [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] but [name_m]Archer[/name_m] does feel a bit trendy. I think [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] would work for [name_m]Archie[/name_m].
If you’re willing to go with something similar to [name_m]Archie[/name_m], like [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], Auggie, [name_m]Albie[/name_m], you could go for [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_m]Albert[/name_m] respectively; which are all far more attractive than [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. Good luck!
I think [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] is a bit over the top and would be difficult to wear for most boys. No point in causing him possible uncomfortable situations. I’d definitely use [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or [name_m]Arch[/name_m].
Thank you all for your input. [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] is safely off the table; in fact, it’s off the table, on the floor, shoved out the door, and buried in the back yard. [name_m]RIP[/name_m].
I’d never considered [name_m]Archie[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but it’d be a wonderful compromise because my husband and I love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but I’m not in love with [name_m]Art[/name_m], [name_m]Artie[/name_m], or any other [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] nicknames. DH is a purist so he said he’d have to “mull over” using [name_m]Archie[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].
Forgive me, this topic might need its own new thread…
I looooove [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] ” It will probably be our first boy middle name ”
It’s much more classy than [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] can work as nicknames for [name_m]Archibald[/name_m].
