Is this too mouthy?

[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] is my grandmothers name. She pronounces it (e-oo-la-lia) or keeps the -e silent and pronounces it (oo-la-lia) no -you sounds according to her (which I don’t like the sound of)

We are naming our daughter [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] (after my other grandmother) and I would like to incorporate [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] in some way for the middle name.

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] pronouced (oo-la-lie) is what we were thinking but do you think it is too mouthy?

Suggestions on a different middle that would honor my nana?
[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to switch the two names around as well!

Or ANY suggestions that you just love with Odelia We have been at this for a month and have not found one we just love.

Thanks berries!!

You get away with a lot more when you honoring somebody with the name you choose but honestly, I don’t think [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is too mouthy…it is ultra feminine and beautiful.

It’s too much for me! But it’s a middle and when you are honoring, you can get away with it, but that doesn’t mean it sounds good.

I do think both names are very similar and have a lot of the same sounds, however as it is a middle name and an honour name I dont see why you cant get away with it

I love the name [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]! So gorgeous! I do think [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is a bit mouthy, and not the best combo, but [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is in the middle, so it’s ok and it’s honouring someone, so it’s even more ok.

My only other thought, and you might not like this as it’s a bit of a stretch is that [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] has “[name_u]Ali[/name_u]” in it, maybe you could use [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_f]Alison[/name_f] instead. I really like [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

Yes Hubby thinks we need to find a variation or something similar for the middle. He says he just can’t get fully on board with [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] but unfortunately it is not usable for us :frowning:

Any other suggestions that are similar to [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] or not even?

I think it’s a bit much (or maybe I’m just not a big fan of the pronunciation), but you have to love it, not me .
There are several shorter versions of the name, such as [name_f]Eula[/name_f], [name_f]Eulala[/name_f], [name_f]Lalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Laia[/name_f], they don’t sound super fantastic with [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] but they are shorter.

I like [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]. Yes, it is L-heavy and everything, but it is a mn that honors smn important for you.

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] has been hard for us to choose a middle name in general :frowning: I am beginning to grow disenchanted with it due to the lack of middle name love.

I would like a bright, youthful, modern middle name since [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] sounds old fashioned and timeless (in my opinion) any suggestions?

Suggestions (that have nothing to do with [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f], though)
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]/[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]

@opheliaflora thank you so much for your suggestions!
I am adding a few from your list for hubby to review

Is this your first baby? What about saving [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] for another child and choosing a middle that is less similar. I will say, I am currently pregnant with #5 and we are regretting using all of our family names (many in middle positions) already. I personally think [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] would make a beautiful sibset.

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is precious.

No Navywife lol this is my #5 and last  Wish we would of used Eualie for a middle for my 2 yr old daughter. We have 3 boys and a girl. Congrats on your #5!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it. If it feels like too much of a mouthful for you, you could do [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] Lalie.

Mayhaps [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eula[/name_f] instead?

I second [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] Lalie/[name_f]Laily[/name_f] etc

Other variations could be:

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eudore[/name_f]
[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f]

If this is your last child I would use the names with the most meaning to you.

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] doesn’t flow well together. [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] sounds better.

I don’t like names with -you sounds like [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
The sole reason I would ever us [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] is because of my grandmother. lol

However after speaking to dh my main issue is that I just do not like the name [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] no matter how we spin it and we agreed [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] is our first priority. I love the name and she is the grandmother I grew up with. In the end I don’t want to name my baby something that doesn’t make my heart sing. So the middle name hunt continues… lol

Any suggestions? We love nature names, whimsical names, I had a thread with great suggestions when we first agreed on [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] being the 1st name but none of them were ‘the one.’

Thanks berries! Naming babies is hard… haha.

[name_f]Odelia[/name_f] [name_f]Eulalie[/name_f] sounds like yodeling… What about a place name or something else with meaning for your grandmother? [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] would pair nicely with a lot of the surname-names that come up around here, or some of the less-cutesy nature names like [name_m]Forest[/name_m], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], [name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]…
