Is this weird?

we were discussing the possibilities of having boys in the future, and names. After watching United(a movie about the 1958 air disaster that killed off 8 Manchester United players), we decided that we wanted to name a son after [name]Bobby[/name] [name]Charlton[/name]. [name]Bobby[/name] [name]Charlton[/name]'s best friend, was [name]Duncan[/name] Edwards, a star, up and coming footballer. [name]Bobby[/name], the youngest on board, survived the crash, however, [name]Duncan[/name] died 2 weeks later in hospital. We felt that, because [name]Bobby[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name] were best friends, that it would be nice to honour them both with our son’s names.

Are [name]Robert[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] O’[name]Connell[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Edward[/name] O’[name]Connell[/name] too weird to use as a sibling set? Is our reason really weird?

It’s not weird if you’re massive [name]Man[/name] U fans. Most people wouldn’t immediately realise the connection.

Nah I think it works. As a Liverpool fan and a fan of footie in general, I know about [name]Bobby[/name] [name]Charlton[/name] and the Munich disaster but I wouldn’t have remembered that there was a [name]Duncan[/name] involved (though a certain branch of my family would certainly get the connection ;)) I think it’d be fine and a nice tribute.

I agree with [name]Ren[/name] (apart from the Liverpool thing). A nice tribute, and if people notices, does that matter? Nothing to be ashamed of, really…

The reason is a little strange to me and it seems to have been decided on pretty impulsively. That said, they’re good names and they go together well, so I see no problem with using them.

I wouldn’t have made the connection. I think that’s a cute sibset, but I like [name]Robbie[/name] better as a nickname for [name]Robert[/name], but that could be because my grandmother calls my father [name]Bobby[/name].

Agree again. They’re lovely names and your sons would wear them well, whether or not the general public made the connection. Personally a public figure would have to mean a lot to me before I would name a child after them, but if [name]Bobby[/name] [name]Charlton[/name] et al rise to that level for you, go for it. I mean it’s not [name]Pele[/name] or some other one-man name, you know?
