Is this weird?

I’m having a girl this July, and my husband and I haven’t been able to settle on a name. Today we thought of naming her Deni, which is a play (different spelling) off my maiden name of Deney. I thought it would be a nice tribute to my dad and grandpa. Her middle name would be after my late MIL (Joyce), so it incorporates both sides of the family. My question is, is that weird to have the first name of my child pronounced the same as my maiden name? And is the name cute/feminine? I like edgier names, and my son’s name is Knox. Prior to today, our front runner was Remi, so this is similar but has more meaning. Thanks!

Congratulations!

It’s actually a rather traditional concept using your maiden name as a name for your child normally it’s in the middle name slot but it’s definitely not weird and a lovely tribute to your family. On the paternal side of my family the maiden name is passed down in the middle name slot and I think it’s a wonderful tribute. So I’m completely digging [name_u]Deni[/name_u] for you I think [name_u]Deni[/name_u] is a wonderful idea she’s fun has a fashionable sound works well with [name_m]Knox[/name_m] and I’m genuinely loving this idea. If it was me I would actually go with [name_f]Deney[/name_f] I think it would make the tribute even more meaningful also I actually prefer [name_f]Deney[/name_f]. Still I can see why [name_u]Deni[/name_u] would be more appealing as the name looks/feels similar too [name_u]Remi[/name_u] and of course still is a wonderful namesake. I think Deni/Deney [name_f]Joy[/name_f] would be great or alternatively Deni/Deney [name_u]Joyce[/name_u] would be lovely.

Good luck

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] to Nameberry!

I love this opportunity for you and happy for you that you have a surname that is useable, meaningful, and a nice sound. Using a name from both sides of the family is great and makes for a lovely, meaningful name. I especially like [name_u]Deni[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]!

I would say using your maiden name for your child’s given name is pretty traditional and not weird at all.

[name_u]Deni[/name_u] is unique and does seem in the same vein style wise of [name_u]Remi[/name_u] and [name_m]Knox[/name_m] and love that it had more meaning for you.

I don’t think it’s usual at all, though I’d probably spell it [name_f]Deney[/name_f], to fully honour it - and because I like that spelling and it wouldn’t be misread for [name_f]Demi[/name_f]?

Deni or Deney would work wonderfully!

[name_u]Deni[/name_u] [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] would be super cute

Have you considered using [name_f]Deney[/name_f]? I actually think it’s sweet, and love that it’s more obviously tied to you. [name_u]Deni[/name_u] is super cute too, though!! I don’t think it’s weird at all, mothers often use their maiden name for a first or middle for their child. I really love that her name would have all of that meaning tied into it!!
I think the name is both cute and edgy, very similar in style to [name_u]Remi[/name_u], and pairs so nicely with [name_m]Knox[/name_m]!
