Is Tristan masculine?

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a top contender for my future baby boy. But the reaction from family has been it’s not masculine enough and it is a girls name.
What are your reactions? When you hear the name [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], do you think of a boy or girl?

To me [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is completely masculine. I’ve never met a girl named [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a male name, it’s just a softer sounding one. It’s not in-your-face masculine, but that doesn’t bother me and if it doesn’t bother you, it doesn’t matter if it bothers your relatives. I think it’s a nice name!

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a softer sounding boys name but it has a gentle masculine charm to it

I dont know of any female [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]'s and I would raise an eyebrow if I heard it on a girl. It might be a regional thing though but even where I’m from in the American south where girls are given soft sounding boys names all the time [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] would be weird on a girl.

Seriously?! I am so surprised! I know that Tristan is used for girls in the US, but I have never met one. All the Tristans I have ever known/met have been male. I have a cousin, actually, named Tristan, and he doesn’t know any girl Tristans either. Plus, I always think of the Celtic legend Tristan & Isolde – featuring a male hero by the name.

In short, Tristan is all boy to me. I can hardly believe there are people who find it feminine at all or “not masculine enough”. I think it’s a handsome choice for a son. (If I didn’t already have one in my family, I’d consider it myself!)

I’ve only met one [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] who is a woman. But I know of one other who is a little boy. The woman comes to mind first because I know her personally but it’s not a strong feminine vibe like [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] or something. I think [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] works as a soft boy’s name, similar to [name_m]Julian[/name_m], and that you should use it if you like it!

What a weird reaction from your relatives… [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is all boy to me. Please use it, it’s a wonderful name.

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is 100% masculine to me. It surprised me to say your family think it is feminine, but for some reason Americans seem to have a habit of making male welsh names unisex - like [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] ([name_u]Reese[/name_u]). For what it’s worth, I really love [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is absolutely a boy name. It’s the perfect combination of rugged & gentle. I’d be peeved if I met a girl named [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about what your relatives say. They’ll love whatever name you choose, because it will be attached to a sweet little baby.

For a more modern day reference, [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] Dugrey from the [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] Girls was male. I also think of [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]. Please use the name!

I find it to be completely masculine! I’ve never known or even heard of a girl [name_u]Tristan[/name_u].

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is a boy’s name. Your family are fools.

All boys to me! I never even knew that it also considered unisex.
