I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] a lot lately, and crushing hard. SO and I both love it and how it sounds with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. I know everyone will think of The Addams Family first, but do you think that’s enough to not use it, or at least move it to the list? There were 31 Wednesdays born in 2012.
I’ve heard worse.
Go for it.
I love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. I think its useable x
I’m on the fence for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and other calendar-related names. I like a lot of them–[name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], [name_u]January[/name_u], [name_f]September[/name_f]–but I can’t decide if they’re usable or not. I’ve seen people talking about wanting to use [name_u]November[/name_u] and bemoaning the fact that there’s no good nickname - but if the main reason you feel you can’t use a name is because there’s no everyday version, then it seems to me that the name isn’t usable. I don’t think [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams is a point against use of [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]; if anything it’s at least an occasion when you can hear someone being called by the name regularly in every day conversation and see how you like it. In general, I find the more unusual calendar names quirky and adorable, something about them draws me in. But can I picture a woman named [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] working in the office next to mine or a nametag with [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] at the department store? Apparently my definitive answer is maybe. I like it but would not be daring enough to use it. And if I’m not daring enough to name my child that, can I presume that my child will be bold enough to carry it off?
I know a little girl named [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] - it’s lovely, and she only makes me love it more. Her parents are definitely what you’d call eccentrics, but it’s still a great name, and she pulls it off very well.
If you don’t mind the Addams Family association, then I say go for it. I don’t think that’s a reason not to use it.
I actually really like [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] : )
I love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. I’m not a big fan of most day/month names, but [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is gorgeous and quirky and you could definitely make [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] work as a nickname if you want something a little less unusual. I think it would be an awesome middle if you’re not quite willing to go for it as a first. ([name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] springs to mind, for some reason.) And it does sound amazing with [name_m]Ivan[/name_m].
I really love it, but my SO has a dachshund named [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] so it’s out for me. But I say go for it! I know a [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] and a [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], why not?
I think [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is worthy of being on your list. If you truly love it, yes, I’d use it. It’s very quirky, and absolutely brings to mind [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams, but personally, I love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams, so it’s a good association for me. If your [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] ends up a little more mainstream than you expected, [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] are both darling nicknames for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f].
I actually don’t know The Addams Family connection so I can’t speak on that, but I do think [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s usable!
The first thing that comes to mind for me is “[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]'s child is full of woe”. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f],are you still out there? I’d be interested to see her opinion on days of the week names…
I love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]! It’s so beautiful! and it does definitely go well with the name [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]!
I definitely think of [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams, however as it is a name on the calendar I would never think in a million years you named your daughter after her, I would simply think they both share the same unusual name.
Personally the name is not to my taste as I dislike word names in general but that is just my opinion. If you really love it that’s fine use it as the name does not have a bad association like the Latrinas of the world.
I love it as a middle name if the unusualness becomes an issue. I’ve said it many time but my brother gets refereed to by his middle name so its the perfect way to get the unusual name you actually want to call your child on the birth certificate, whilst also having a more usual one on paper.
I have loved [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] for a long time, and if I am lucky enough to have a girl on a [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], then that very well may be her name. I’m also a big fan of the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is just one way to get to that. I think it’s really usable.
However, I wouldn’t use it unless the baby was born on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] or it has some significance to you. [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f], Friday and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] are also great day names!
Someone in my family just named their baby boy Friday [name_m]Paul[/name_m], which was my mother’s suggestion. So, if people use and like Friday why not [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]?
I think it would be a good name for a baby actually born on wednesday. But you can always use it as a middle.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] think of a proper middle and a decent nn.
It’s great to see so much love for [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]!
cheele - Thank you.
suzywoo - Thank you for your reply.
gwensmom - You make a really great point. [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] could be difficult for certain personalities to carry, but it does have great nicknames, which I think is why we’re both so okay with its boldness.
oliviasarah - A real like [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]! That’s awesome! Thanks for your comment!
geeknamezyo - He doesn’t mind the association at all, and even though I love the association myself, it’s really my main concern with the name. I don’t know why, it isn’t a bad association for me. I guess I just wouldn’t want her to have to deal with other people’s problems with it. I know name teasing isn’t as prevalent as it once was, but I worry that [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is uniquely teasable in some way.
mel_finch - Thank you! [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is a great nickname.
tori101 - Thank you!
greyer - That’s too bad, but it does make a great dog name, too!
redwoodfey - I do love [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], but it never fit on our list, and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is adorable too. Thank you!
moonblossom - Thank you for your reply!
resaandmo - I have heard of the nursery rhyme, but never actually heard it. I’ll need to look it up. I thought the woe part was a reference to [name_m]Odin[/name_m].
kyla12 - Thank you for your comment!
giinkies - It’s refreshing to hear that. People actually use [name_f]Latrina[/name_f]? I was hoping that it was just a forum legend of some sort.
axps123 - Why wouldn’t you use it unless the baby was born on a [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]? I don’t mean to be rude at all, I just don’t understand.
nuisity - Congratulations to your family! Friday [name_m]Paul[/name_m] is adorable!
I love [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams, so I’d love to meet a little girl named [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]
[name_m]How[/name_m] have you never heard of the Addams Family?
Anyway, I agree with everyone else. It’s not my style, but I can see it being very cute on a little girl and there are some cute nn possibilities - [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].
pistachio- yes people actually use [name_f]Latrina[/name_f]. If you check the nameberry page for it, the charts show that it was in the top 1000 for 5 yrs in the 70s; As unfortunate as it is. My aunt has a coworker whose birth name was [name_f]Latrina[/name_f], she changed it to [name_f]Leticia[/name_f] when she turned 18, she wanted a name with a similar sound but without the bad connotation.
That is why I said despite my extreme dislike of word names, I think [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is perfectly usable.
My fave nn is [name_f]Wendy[/name_f].
