I’m just pondering this-I’m not naming a little girl. I’ve always thought [name_f]Winona[/name_f] was lovely but is it too tied to Ms. [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]? I know there is a [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Judd[/name_m] (?) but i don’t think many people in the UK would immediately think of her. Would it sound a little tacky (especially outside the USA), like calling a kid [name_f]Sigourney[/name_f] or [name_f]Madonna[/name_f]?
I have a g-g-grandmother named [name_f]Wenona[/name_f], so that’s who I thought of first, then Ms. [name_m]Judd[/name_m] (love that voice!), and of course Ms. [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]. It’s already a 3 person name off the top of my head. I think your child could easily make it her own.
I don’t think it’s a “one person” name at all. I didn’t even know who [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] was until I googled her just now.
I really think [name_f]Winona[/name_f] is such an adorable name, and [name_f]Nona[/name_f] as a nickname? Cute or what! I think [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] is really lovely, and idk whether it is a one person name or not. But I really like it
[name_f]Winona[/name_f] is a lovely name. And [name_f]Winona[/name_f] is also the name of a place in Minnesota. But overall [name_f]Winona[/name_f] is a really pretty name and if you like it you should choose it also [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] in my opinion is a really cute nickname for [name_f]Winona[/name_f]. I hope this helped.
My first thought when I hear [name_f]Winona[/name_f] is [name_f]Wynnona[/name_f] [name_m]Judd[/name_m], I don’t know who [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] is. Personally I don’t find [name_f]Winona[/name_f] a one person name or tacky at all, despite the strong associations. I think the associations would fade into the background if I were to meet a little [name_f]Winona[/name_f]. Overall I really like [name_f]Winona[/name_f]
My first thought was [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], but I don’t think I would think of her if I didn’t read about her just recently. I don’t think it’s a one person name.
Gosh, that is really interesting! Not the response i was expecting at all. Thanks for the feedback, Berries!
I’ve never heard of anyone named [name_f]Winona[/name_f] (I have no idea who this Ms. [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] is!). So to me, no it’s not a one person name! I think it’s beautiful and sounds very sophisticated and youthful. Also it’s nice to have [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a nickname without having to use [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (I really don’t like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]).
I don’t think it’s a one-person name, either. Sure, I associate the name [name_f]Winona[/name_f] with the actress [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], but I do intrinsically love the name as well. And the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is beyond adorable!
I think for those of us in our 20’s and 30’s there is a strong association with [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], but she has been out of the spotlight for a long time and in another decade or so will be pretty much obsolete. Kids nowadays have no idea who she is so I think the name is totally usable now.
