Isaac "Zeke"

Hi all

We stumbled upon [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] in the [name_m]Baby[/name_m] [name_m]Name[/name_m] [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] book and we absolutely love it. Friends and family have all loved the idea as well but other naming forums were…not so nice about it which now has me questioning it. To me, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] (eye-zick) isn’t that far of a leap to [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] considering you’re just changing a vowel sound. Is it really too odd or confusing to use? [name_m]Not[/name_m] looking for other ideas/suggestions; just looking for feedback specifically on this name/nickname combo. Would love your thoughts. Thanks!

[name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is usually short for [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] but I don’t see why it can’t be short for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] totally works for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and I really like it! I do think people will assume [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] sometimes but that shouldn’t be reason enough to deter you from using

Sorry you had that experience on other forums!

I personally think the differing vowels make it a no-go for me but it’s your son!

[name_m]Zeke[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is super cool! [name_m]You[/name_m] may get a few mentions here and there that assume his full name is [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], but I actually prefer [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] personally.

It’s a bit stretchy, but I love it and I think it works just fine! It reminds me of one I have on my own list - Oliver nn “Levi”. If you, your family, and your friends all love it, I say ignore the haters on these other name websites and follow your heart, that’s what matters most! I don’t find it confusing at all, and I think a simple “His full name is Isaac, but we call him Zeke” would suffice in most conversations if people ask if it’s short for Ezekiel.

Sorry other people have been less than kind!

I know a little [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zac[/name_m] or [name_m]Zacky[/name_m] so I don’t think [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is out of the realms at all!

If you want a little more oomph to it you could go with an E-sound middle? But I really think it’s fine.

I absolutely think it works and would be thrilled to meet a little [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] “Zeke”. [name_m]The[/name_m] sounds are basically all there. I don’t know if you’d consider the [name_m]Izaak[/name_m] spelling to make it visually closer? Possibly too much hassle but I’m quite partial to it.

[name_m]Zeke[/name_m] works really well. It may be unexpected but the sounds make perfect sense. It should be more common that it is!

Plenty of people have nicknames that have nothing to do with their name (Zeke does actually make sense for Isaac IMO) and moreso with their personality or something else. I don’t see a problem with it! Zeke is a sweet name. :green_heart:

If I were to meet one, I’d be surprised and would probably wonder about how he became [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], but I’d also find it cool? I’d probably go, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] → Saac → [name_m]Zac[/name_m] → [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], to make sense of it – and also wonder if the [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] was being said ee-zak over eye-zak which would make it even closer in sound.

I guess, all that ramble is to say I’d be surprised but wouldn’t find it totally odd?

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m] back to Nameberry! [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is super handsome, and [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is such a lovely and friendly nickname! I’m certainly more used to [name_m]Ike[/name_m] or [name_m]Zac[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], and [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is a little bit of a stretch, but I don’t think it’s so outlandish that it warranted that kind of reaction! I’m sorry to hear they made you question it. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is a lovely name, and if it feels like the one, you absolutely should go for it!

Good luck!
