Isaac?

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are considering the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] for our firstborn. It is important to us that our baby is not surrounded by a ton of other babies with his same name. I see that [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is still in the top 50, but it seems to be losing popularity. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you all know a lot of little kids/babies named [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]? Thanks in advance!

I’ve worked with the under-five set for four years now, mostly in the Midwest US, and have met one [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]! He went by [name_m]Ike[/name_m] and was only [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] when he wasn’t listening to his older brother.

Oh, thank you! Very helpful. Have you worked with a lot of any of the below?

[name_u]Wesley[/name_u] (Wes)
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Eli[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_u]Devin[/name_u]
[name_u]Rhett[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (Theo)
[name_u]Walter[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m]

let me think!
wesley- a couple, plus westin/weston who went by [name_m]Wes[/name_m] part of the time
bennett- one or two, but also a handful of benjamins putting ben up there in the playground analysis!
elliott- also one or two, but they were super sweet kids, i’d teach an elliott any day!
eli- only one i remember distinctly but several elijahs
ian- none!
devin- none! i did go to school with some devins who are in their 20s now, boys and girls both
rhett- none!
theodore- two who went by teddy, two who were theo or theodore, plus one theo who was just theo
walter- one, but he completely transformed the name for me! i adore it. his family nickname was wallaby and when he was learning to talk he called himself wa-wee (wally)
preston- none!

When I worked with little kids, I didn’t meet a single [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]! I haven’t really heard it called out in public either.

I’ve only ever come across one when I was a kid, a friend of my brothers (would be in his 20s now)

I’ve taught grades from 2-12 for 35 years and I’ve only taught one.

I’m a daycare teacher working with infants! I am also familiar with the classes up till about age four, so I get a good idea of what names are in trend.

I can’t say there’s been an Isaac. There were a few when I was younger, but that’s been a while! I’d like to see it again.

Wesley — I have heard this one, but only once!
Bennett — I have not heard this one!
Elliott — This is definitely a name on the rise, but I have not had one in my class!
Eli — We have more Elijah’s than I can count, most of which go by Eli, but only one who’s legal name is Eli — he may still feel like one of many.
Max — I have not met one and don’t imagine there are too many - I like this option the most for my style of names.
Ian — same as my answer for Isaac; previously popular, but not for this age group. I havent met one!
Devin — I’ve not met one, I have met a Delvin, though, but only one.
Rhett — I have not heard this one! I like this option a lot!
Theodore — A very popular option right now, though less popular than nn Theo!
Walter — never met!
Preston — only one, and he’s a school age child.

The most common boy names right now in my experience are Elijah, Xavier, Josiah, Kaden/variants, and Rory.

Teens/tweens named [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]? Yes. Babies named [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]? No. (But I’m not American so take that with a grain of salt)

Up until recently, I lived in [name_u]Southern[/name_u] CA and found it popular in Latino communities. I knew about 4 Isaacs under age of 16 when I worked with a bunch of middle/elementary school-aged kids. It’s a great cross-cultural name and feels very timeless to me. I moved to the [name_m]Pacific[/name_m] Northwest and haven’t encountered any so far. I would use it despite any concerns about popularity if given the chance. Good luck with your decision!

[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is my top choice for boys too! I’ve only ever met one [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], who is about 40, maybe a few years younger. I’ve worked in daycare and never met a little [name_m]Isaac[/name_m].

I know one who is maybe 12 now. I’m wracking my brain and can’t think of another.

Really popular names in my area tend to be things like [name_m]Brantley[/name_m], Aiden/-aiden names, [name_u]Maverick[/name_u], things like that.

Thank you so much! You all have been so helpful.

Super helpful! Much appreciated.

We have a nephew [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] who is a young teen and I know one about 7yr old and one about 2… Probably more of a concentrated local thing though, since I don’t see them out and about much. Great, strong name!

Have you taught many/any Max’s?

I don’t think I’ve actually ever met anyone who goes by this name (a few folks have [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] as a middle). I especially don’t know any small children named [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. You should go for it!
