Is [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] too much with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]?
Is it too Jewish/too biblical?
What does the name evoke to you?
Thank you!
I was just thinking about [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] today! Positives for me are the meaning and the distinctive sound. While it’s on the more popular side (in the US), nothing sounds quite like it. I do associate it with the Biblical figure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was used by non-religious or non-Jewish parents.
Assuming you’re asking about [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] as siblings, I do find them rather close. Not necessarily unusable though, especially if there are other kids.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is a good, strong name. It’s visually distinctive with its double “aa” and its sound is pleasantly sharp.
I don’t think it’s too Jewish or too Biblical. It’s been used widely enough that it works for anyone.
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] for twins, but for different-aged siblings it would be ok if the same initial and starting sound doesn’t bother you.
Thank you! No other kids and I don’t think there will be more, they’re 6 years apart though, it’s bothering me a little that they sound quite close but I don’t know yet how much weight I want to give to that, I can’t quite decide to take Isaac off my list…
There’s so many names I love that are just too close to my daughter’s, like anything ending in -is or -us is definitely out, Felix is kinda on the fence too.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] feels sweet and cheerful, fairly international and familiar. It reminds me of laughter (because of the meaning, and the first [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] I met!)
I like it, but [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are a bit much for me
I don’t think they’re unusable together but if you like [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] do you like zachary shortened to zack… because it sounds kinda similar. I can imagine an [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and zach but if your heart is set of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] no i don’t think it’s too biblical not with names like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] being on trend… honestly a lot of common names originate from the bible or old testament - names like sarah, rachel… the difference is [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is a bit more unusual. I like it and think you should go with your gut, and if you’re worried it sound sto biblical add a very unbiblical middle name - maybe a nature name like [name_u]River[/name_u], or [name_u]Brook[/name_u], or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] , that modern twist can take away from picturing an old religious person buried deep in scripture.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is super lovely! It’s not one I think I’d instantly want to use myself, but I love seeing it on others. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] do seem pretty close but I don’t know that I would rule them out altogether? I do think if you do one as a middle (like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u] Isaac) it’s 100% fine. I don’t find it too Jewish/Biblical? When a name hits the top 100, I think it starts to just feel like any other name. And it’s been in the top 100 for almost 30 years now. I do think of the Bible character, but I just as much think about the little boy in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] that I sponsor with this name… and also my best friend’s husband, who isn’t really religious. I think an [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] could be anyone, and the meaning “laughter” can be sweet.
Good luck!
Not too Jewish but don’t like it.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is such a great name. Fine with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and no, I don’t think it’s too Jewish or connected to the Bible. I would, however, cross it off the list if his older sister is [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. As moms we tend to mix up our kids names as it is. I know from experience that when you have 2 names that are similar it makes that problem even worse. I’d reserve it for a middle name.
