Isabel as a nn for Elizabeth?

Hiii. So my name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and I’ve never really liked It as I feel It’s too formal for me. Plus I’m also not really a fan of the nicknames either, besides [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Buuut, I’ve always loved the spanish variant [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], and I’m considering going by that as I feel It suits me better. I just wanted to know If It would be a stretch though? Thanks!
(sorry if i put this in the wrong category btw, i was confused as to which one it belonged in.)

Definitely a stretch as most people don’t know the etymologies behind names and these are two separate names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] say you prefer to be called [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and I think that should be fine🥰

Personally if you don’t like your name go by another! I think we tend to be very strict on names, but it’s your name, and while your parents chose it for
you at the beginning, it doesn’t mean it’ll be yours forever! In terms of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] I think it be a stretch for it to be a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I think [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] spelling is also more similar to the original given length, but I do recommend jsut going by the name that fits you, I personally go by a different name than my government, and while hard at first, I rather make the uncomfortable correction at first meeting than spend my whole life addressed by a name that’s not mine!

I think you could go by [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] if you wanted to

I agree with @anon68906791; [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] seems less like a nickname and more like an alternative name (which you can absolutely go by if it makes you more comfortable!)

Definitely a stretch for a nickname. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has so many nickname options! Maybe you have considered them all, but there is…

Ella
[name_f]Elle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Liza[/name_f]
[name_f]Liz[/name_f]
[name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Zibby[/name_f]
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Izzie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Bess[/name_f]
[name_f]Bizzy[/name_f]
[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]

and probably more!

I like [name_f]Zibby[/name_f]! Never knew that was a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Yep! If you click on [name_f]Zibby[/name_f] in my post or yours you can see the nameberry page about it!

I would say just change it to [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]. I think it is too much of a stretch for a nn
