[name_m]Hi[/name_m] again!
This time I want to discuss a name that I really, really love and is my husband’s top choice - [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I’ve always thought it is beautiful, feminine but not too frilly, very elegant, graceful, vintage and ages well.
It would totally be a frontrunner if my sister wasn’t [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (pronounced exactly the same way but [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] has a ‘la’ on the end’.
The thing is that she ALWAYS uses [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]. We never, ever, call her by her full [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. Literally never. So obviously, if we were to use [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], our daughter would not be, and never could or would be, an [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]. So that’s not the problem.
It’s just that disregarding the fact that we never call my sis [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], is [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] still just too close?
We would love some opinions, would be really helpful, as we both adore the name. Also, what are your thoughts on [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]?
Thank you!
I think it’s fine! [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], though common, is such a stunning name.
It’s fine, and a great way to honor your sister if you want to. Most of the Isabellas I know go by [name_f]Bella[/name_f] instead of [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], anyway, so don’t worry about that.
Thanks everyone! Only 2 replies and I already feel much more confident! my sister and I get on well, but we have never been super close so my daughter will see her maybe 4/5 times a year at absolute most. Obviously if I had a niece [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] I would not consider [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but as it is my not super close sister who always goes by [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], I would say that [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] is looking strong at the moment. Thanks for the replies, keep them coming! X
If you love it, use it. The names are different in how they look too, which I think is a plus (I’d be more cautious if it was [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]). However, I’d ask your sister if she’d mind. I personally wouldn’t but I’d like to know beforehand. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you plan on nicknaming [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] as anything? Like [name_f]Bella[/name_f]? An [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] nn [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and an [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f] would be so much easier for both of them.
