Isabelline?

Is it trying to hard to be [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] but different?
I like that it is a color name, but the main reason I like it is because I like [name_f]Isabeli[/name_f] Fontana’s name more than [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I understand that [name_f]Isabeli[/name_f] isn’t a proper spelling and also opens up the obvious Belly association in English, so I wouldn’t use it. Therefore I think [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f] gives me the pronunciation I like but still looks like a proper name, whilst also having the lovely color association.

Thoughts, opinions on the name?
Honest opinions are more than welcome. thank you to all who take the time to respond!

(NB “Isabelline, also known as Isabella, is a pale grey-yellow, pale fawn, pale cream-brown or parchment colour. It is primarily found in animal coat colouring, particularly plumage colour in birds and, in Europe, in horses. It also has historically been applied to fashion.” via Wikipedia)

To me it sounds made up.

It does sound a bit made up but also like a proper name. There’s many made up names that are silly but I don’t think [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f] is a part of these.

I vaguely recognise this as a colour name but to be honest all I hear is ‘‘Is a belly’’. I see the appeal ( it doesn’t look made up to me, more like some ancient, unused [name_m]French[/name_m]/Italian/Romantic variation of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]) but I don’t think it works.

I liked it until I heard the story of how pale fawn became associated with [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. It’s okay otherwise but that kinda killed it for me. It’s a pretty colour on birds/dogs/horses though.

I’m quite fond of [name_f]Isidora[/name_f] and some of the wackier [name_f]Bel[/name_f]- names at the moment and pro-colour names so while I wouldn’t use it I can’t hate it.

EDIT: “because” and “became” are different words.

I still hear “belly” loud and clear.

Mmhm, the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] thing is rather disturbing. It’s probably just an urban legend though. Otherwise, I think of the makeup brand Maybelline. Would you consider [name_f]Isabeli[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]? You may prefer the [name_f]Isabell[/name_f] spelling which I think is [name_m]German[/name_m].

[name_f]Love[/name_f] all names ending with line and ine… [name_f]Melusine[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f], [name_f]Isaline[/name_f]…

I love -ine names but this sounds too made-up for my tastes. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the similar-sounding Ysaline, [name_f]Sibylline[/name_f], and [name_m]Cymbeline[/name_m], though.

@flamingo Thanks for the honest opinion!

@opheliaflora I understand what you are saying. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to know you don’t consider it too silly.

@oliviasarah The “Is a belly” pronunciation is a good point that you bring up. I heard it in [name_f]Isabeli[/name_f] but was hoping maybe the -ine ending might cover it up. [name_m]Alas[/name_m] it does not. Okay, i do appreciate the honest feedback and you do bring up some very good points

@stripedsocks You are right, that is a disturbing story to have for a name so that killed it for me as well. I’d dislike if my child ebcame a name nerd and came across that story. I also like alot of other bell- names so I’ll find another name.

@rlinden Great to know it isn’t hidden

@bonfireazalea I didn’t associate it with Maybelline but I understand how you came to that conclusion. You are also right in that is a disturbing story that can very easily be found online; I’d dislike having that as a namesake. You make a good point in using [name_f]Isabeli[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] (I like this one the best), I hadn’t considered that because I was going to go with [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] if [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f] didn’t work out.

@sorceress [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to know you love the -ine names. Somehow I think the -ine elevates the name a bit.

@isolieth Thanks for the honest feedback

I actually know someone who is expecting who is considering using [name_f]Isabelline[/name_f]. It was one of the better names on her list.

@uniquenamelover [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to know you like the name (better than the others) and that someone is thinking of using it
