Wondering what your thoughts are on the name [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Tish[/name_f]) It’s a Scottish name, which I like since I’ve lived in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] for over half my life now, but not too sure about the nn [name_f]Tish[/name_f] - or the potentially more popular nickname [name_f]Bella[/name_f] (too Twilight for my liking)
Definitely wouldn’t go for the names [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - I like the fact that [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] is different. Not sure about the initial I though.
Initial thoughts… [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] sounds lispy and looks a bit obscene because “ish” often replaces “shit” when rap songs play on the radio, which has made “ish” well-established slang in the US. But, it might work in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], I don’t know.
Hmm. I’ve heard of Isbel before, but never [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f]. It’s certainly unique. But, like pp said, ish is slang here in [name_u]America[/name_u]. If you don’t mind that association and the fact that you don’t love any of the nicknames (unless you’re a fan of [name_f]Belle[/name_f]), then I’d say use it.
You could go with the [name_f]Iseabail[/name_f] spelling. [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] is the anglicized form of [name_f]Iseabail[/name_f]. I personally do not care for either spelling and much prefer [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isobel[/name_f].
