Isla and Ailsa...too close for siblings?

I’m not pregnant, nor are we TTC yet, but I have a long standing addiction to names, and DH is always willing to cater to my whims and discuss. Our current favourite for a girl is Isla Rue (though I’m leaning towards using my grandmothers full name - Ruth, in the middle).

Today I met a super sweet little girl named Ailsa and I fell in love with the name something fierce. I actually fell in love with it when I saw it written, and then when I met her, it cemented my love cause she was just so lovely!

Are Isla (EYE-lah) and Ailsa (AYL-suh) too close for sisters? I’m thinking Isla Ruth and Ailsa Mavis. They’d both go by their full first name (no nicknames) so I just want to make sure they don’t sound super matchy or difficult to differentiate.

[name_m]How[/name_m] is [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] pronounced?

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: nvm I see you added that. Yes I think they’re too similar for sisters [name_f]IMO[/name_f]

Yeah, for me it’d get tongue-twister-y. And what would you name a 3rd girl?

Too close… Maybe [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Amara[/name_f]?

Yes they look and sound almost the same and people might mispronounce [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] as [name_f]Isla[/name_f] thinking the A is silent.

I think so. I love both [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] - [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] in particular - but they are very matchy and very tongue twisting together.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] are both beautiful combinations though.

Yes they read and sound almost the same. People may think the “A” is silent and mispronounce [name_f]Ailsa[/name_f] as [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Yes, i think too close. Maybe as a middle name?

Can’t say I’m surprised. I think I was trying to talk myself into believing that they weren’t too close, but saying them aloud, I know it would be a huge tongue twister to try to say them at the same time. Sad. They’re both so pretty, I don’t know how I’ll choose one!
