Isla or Seraphina?

Good evening!
So we’ve been considering about [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], but couldn’t decide on one. We love how [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is uncommon-but-not-weird, soft-sounding, and very modern-ish. We also really like the name [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], but somehow feel like it’s a little too “fake”. It just feels really…movie-ish to us. Like it doesn’t feel like a real name, but instead, a fiction character’s name. Maybe it’s because we’ve both heard of the book [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] before. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear it, my brain immediately associates it with a girl that can like control fire or something. But we [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] it’s meaning “the firey-one” and the nn [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] (we don’t want to just go with [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] because it’s way too common).
So what do you guys think?

We’ve also been considering using [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] as a middle name, but then we won’t be able to use the nn [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].
Also, we feel like [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is a little bit too long, so her friends and even she herself will defiantly shorten it to something, which is kind of a shame bc we want her to just go with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]

This is tough! I obviously love both names a ton, considering I have [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] in my signature. Obviously, I would suggest going with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], since you get to use both names. Sadly I think [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] will get automatically shortened to [name_f]Sera[/name_f]/[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to put it out there that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] may not be as uncommon as you think, it’s getting exponentially popular in the US, [name_f]Canada[/name_f], UK, etc.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], also, [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u](or however you spell it)

[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]. For sure.

I love both names. It sounds to me like you prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f] on a practical level, but to be honest I’d vote for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]. I agree that it sounds like a fictional princess or like a girl who can control fire or something, but it’s still super lovely and the nickname [name_f]Sera[/name_f]/[name_f]Sara[/name_f] really brings it down to earth. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] would be a fabulous combo though! (Also worth mentioning, some people will have trouble pronouncing [name_f]Isla[/name_f] so that’s something to consider, but of course not a deal breaker).

Regarding [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], I’m not a fan of [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] at all. It just sounds like the president to me.

Just based on your feelings about the 2 it seems like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is the way to go.

Long, grande, historical/mythical/literary names are totally my thing, but it sounds like that is what turns you off to [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]. It might feel less fake to you when it’s being worn by an actual person, but you also run the risk of feeling like it’s over the top or exclusively calling her [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].

In fact your interest in [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] as a nick name makes me feel even more strongly that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is the way to go for you. Clean, simple, but not boring feels like the sweet spot when it comes to your name taste.

I love seraphina!!!

I love both names!
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is so very sweet, but I wouldn’t call it uncommon at all. It is in the top 10 - 100 in a lot of countries. If you are wanting an uncommon name, then it may not be the best choice. I can see it only becoming more popular. I do understand your attraction though, it is very soft and feminine. It is gorgeous.
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is gorgeous as well. Very flowy, but feisty. Personally, I find the -a ending makes it a bit flouncy and as such we prefer [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], but that it totally a personal choice. If it was me, I would go with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] because it is much more uncommon, but that is just me.

This is a really good point. If you are just going to call her by her nickname all the time because her full names seems too much, then that is a good reason not to use [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].

I agree. [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] is my own top choice so I obviously love that, but from reading your post, I feel like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is the answer for you. Or maybe [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].

I do like [name_f]Sera[/name_f]/[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] as well, but if you actually prefer to just call her that and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] as a full name still feels “fake” to you, then maybe it’s not the (first) name.
