"island" Babynames?

So this week i ask you for names that mean “island”, or have something to do with islands or even names of islands that (in your opinion) would be usable for a real child.

Thanks in advance!

My fav island name is [name]Catalina[/name] .

[name]Britain[/name]
Brittania
[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Anne[/name]–Think [name]Prince[/name] [name]Edward[/name] Island for [name]Anne[/name] [name]Shirley[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]–[name]Martha[/name]'s Vineyard

I’m sure others will be lots more creative!

[name]Avalon[/name] - island of apples

Boys:
[name]Lyle[/name] - from the island
[name]Ramsay[/name] - wild-garlic island / low-lying land
[name]Rodney[/name] - island near the clearing

[name]Avalon[/name]

[name]Innes[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Whitney[/name]

[name]Ellery[/name], [name]Avalon[/name], [name]Ramsay[/name], [name]Rodney[/name], [name]Innes[/name] and [name]Lucia[/name] are probably my faves out of this bunch.

Interesting! I feel a possible blog coming on.

As islands – or names – go, this is big one, but I like Australia. I’m not sure if it is more girly or boyish. And I’m not sure anyone would use it, as it is long without the land a good nn in sight. Aussie, I imagine, is too generic, although it might work for some.

Other islands:

[name]Aberdeen[/name]
Asheron
[name]Albany[/name]
Amherst
Amrita
[name]Bainbridge[/name]
[name]Bali[/name]
[name]Balta[/name]
Bardados
[name]Cay[/name]
[name]Cayman[/name]
[name]Cayo[/name]
[name]Chandra[/name]
Chantry
[name]Cove[/name]
[name]Crane[/name]
[name]Cuba[/name]
[name]Cypress[/name]
[name]Cyprus[/name]
Dek
[name]Delos[/name]
[name]Easter[/name]
Eilean
Key
[name]Halifax[/name]
[name]Heron[/name]
[name]Islay[/name]
[name]Jamaica[/name]
Kiltan
[name]Kodiak[/name]
[name]Malta[/name]
Maui
Paxi
Samos
Shanaghy
[name]Shaw[/name]
[name]Sicily[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]
[name]Tahiti[/name]
Vaila
[name]Valentia[/name]
Vancouver

Plus
[name]Robinson[/name]
Crusoe
Friday
Ithica

Thank you bonnie!

I think those are usable:
[name]Albany[/name]
Amrita
[name]Bainbridge[/name]
[name]Bali[/name]
[name]Cay[/name]
[name]Chandra[/name]
[name]Crane[/name]
[name]Cuba[/name]
[name]Delos[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]

[name]Robinson[/name]

And i really like Amrita, [name]Chandra[/name] and [name]Robinson[/name]!

Then there are all the obvious names already proposed elswhere as green names – [name]Bay[/name] (personal favorite), [name]Harbor[/name], [name]Dune[/name]. With [name]Isla[/name] so popular for girls, I’ve wondered if Island would work for boys. I’ve heard [name]Beach[/name] proposed, but it is a little too close to the slur to work for me.

In mythical islands, there is not only [name]Avalon[/name], but:

[name]Atlantis[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
Bacaloa
[name]Brazil[/name]
[name]Brendan[/name]
Brittia
[name]California[/name]
Chryse
[name]Mayda[/name]

[name]Add[/name] to real:
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Java[/name]
Faroe
Faroese
Kalsoy

As well as mythical beasts (some tweaked):
[name]Abdullah[/name]
Carmenae
Castalia
[name]Iara[/name] (or [name]Yara[/name])
[name]Lara[/name]
Lerna
Li Ban
Lilaea
Lorilei
Melite
[name]Melusine[/name]
[name]Naiad[/name]
[name]Nixie[/name]
Nomia
[name]Silkie[/name]
[name]Sirena[/name]
[name]Sirene[/name] (Cyrene is one historical spelling, or our interpetation of it).
Styx
Syrenka
[name]Ondine[/name]

Misc:
[name]Ocean[/name]
[name]Oceane[/name] (popular in [name]France[/name])
[name]Sami[/name]
Hylas
I just saw [name]Blue[/name] Crush, set in [name]Hawaii[/name], and I loved the name of the character [name]Eden[/name], as obviously many move to [name]Hawaii[/name] seeking exactly that.

([name]Just[/name] by the way, we have a mermaid to think for [name]Madison[/name]!)
