[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I’m wondering if you can help me come up with new name choices for girls I’ve read [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Wattenberg’s book and discovered that the styles I like are [name_f]Laci[/name_f] and Lissome, Latina, Italian,Slavic, exotic traditional girls names. The trouble is, there seems to be a problem with all my favorite names. We are cross-culture spanish/english family and live in the U.S. Wondering if you can help me come up with some fresh choices that may be off the beaten path. Here are some of the names I like but don’t work for me.
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]–don’t like the nicknames
[name_f]Gabriela[/name_f]–nicknames
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]-nicknames
[name_f]Alesandra[/name_f]-nicknames
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]-nicknames and undesirable pronunciations in english
[name_f]Camila[/name_f]- sound great in spanish, don’t care for it pronounced in english
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f]/[name_f]Mariela[/name_f]/ etc…sound great in spanish but lose their grace in english [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]- like it but clashes with our surname
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]- DH doesn’ like it
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]- DH doesn’t like it
[name_f]Adriana[/name_f]- problem with very different spanish/english pronunciations Aydreeana vs Ahdreeana.
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]- problem with difference in spanish/english pronunciation. Dont like english pn.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know some unique Italian/Spanish names that are off the beaten track that would fit in this style? (I’ve already gone through the lists in [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Wattenberg’s book and haven’t found what I’m looking for.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the nicknames. People will use the full name if you introduce her as that and just politely correct otherwise. I know a [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Alesandra[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] who all go exclusively by their full names in the US. (None of the Gabriellas I know do this, but I’m sure they exist!) So long as your daughter doesn’t end up liking on one of the nicknames, I think you would be fine. I think the pronunciation issues would be a bigger, more annoying problem and would steer clear of those.
