It is weird?

I was wondering if it is weird to name your kids names that are too different? For example, my favorite youtubers of all time are twins named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. They are both 1 syllable which works well but, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is so main stream whereas [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is a name gaining popularity but isn’t quite there yet. Are names like this weird or too different? Is there a specific way to make sure that twin names go well together? Syllables and such?

I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u] go well together, actually. [name_m]Both[/name_m] so casual.

Now if you had said someone had named their twins something like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], I could see your point.

I don’t think there’s a real trick to it, but I think the most important thing is that both names give off a similar feel/vibe.

I find [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] extremely compatible as sibling names. In fact, I think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] sound better together than [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] (even though those are probably more stylistically similar). [name_m]Prescott[/name_m] and Xenon, however, would be another story.

I don’t think names have to be exactly the same style to sound good together (i.e. all sibs must have nature names or classic names, etc). Many styles complement one another such that a classic name may sound great with a nature name or even a more modern name, depending on the precise sounds and patterns of usage.

I think this is one of those things people can take too far in both directions.

Sure [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Nova[/name_f] are very different in terms of popularity, familiarity, and style–but if you like them both, use them! Same with something like [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Joy[/name_f]–very different but no reason not to use both. They aren’t gonna be connected at the hip their entire lives.

My only “rule” is that names should be matched in terms of beauty. You don’t want to name one girl [name_f]Maude[/name_f] and the other [name_f]Felicity[/name_f].

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u] have different etymologies, but they both have a laid-back, dashing kind of feel. I know a family, for example, where half the children have very Spanish names ([name_f]Esperanza[/name_f], for example) and the other half have British-ish surname-like names (like [name_m]Lanier[/name_m]). It was very odd.

I’m of the opinion that the only thing that needs to match about your kids is their last name. They aren’t a new line of furniture, they are individuals, so give them individual names
I hear people worry that if their kids names are too different no one will know they are family, and I don’t understand that. Most of the time you just have to look at people to see a family resemblance.
If you’re giving a little human a name for life, not just a name for their childhood, they don’t have to be part of a set, imo.

Hear! Hear! I couldn’t tell you the name of any of my colleagues’ siblings, it just doesn’t matter unless you name them all [name_m]George[/name_m] Foreman.

Theoretically, I like sibling names to kind of “fit” together. BUT, realistically, if I had a boy tomorrow, he would be [name_u]Avery[/name_u] and if I had a daughter, she would be [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Italian pronunciation).

The reasons? Because my SO suggested [name_u]Avery[/name_u] for a boy (and I have come to like it, even though I didn’t think I would and it doesn’t fit with my usual naming style), and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] because it is MY style.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]

([name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Hope[/name_f])

I can’t imagine anyone saying “What a fabulous sibset!” But these children would be individuals, so who really cares in practice? I like all these names, as does my SO, and all of them mean something to one or both of us.

EDIT: Oh, and none of those names are really perfect matches for a Croatian surname… Keeps people guessing, I guess!
