It’s a boy!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] found out! We are looking for some suggestions. Our first choice we both agree on is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. However, we are also thinking about honoring my mother who passed away when I was younger. Her initials are J & M.

The issue is that they are popular initials in both our families. We like classic names with literary & author themes.

J names we can’t use:
[name_m]Justin[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
Jacob

We aren’t big fans of super biblical names like [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] & [name_m]Judah[/name_m].

One M name we like is [name_m]Miles[/name_m].

Thank you for any suggestions!

What about [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] or [name_m]Joel[/name_m]?
And for M: [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Maximus[/name_m], [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], or [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]

Can’t help but notice that [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Milton[/name_m] matches your mother’s initials. Or maybe just [name_m]Milton[/name_m] as a middle for [name_m]Henry[/name_m]?

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] shortened to [name_u]Jem[/name_u]? It sounds just like your mother’s initials JM, and also has an obvious literary connection in [name_u]Jem[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] from TKAM.

Exciting news, congratulations! Honouring your mother is a beautiful idea, and I love how your son will have a special connection to his grandmother. I’m wondering what’s at the root of your concern with using the same initials. They’re popular initials in both your families so does that mean you’re struggling to find names you like that haven’t already been used? Does it feel not very unique to have the same initials? I believe the most important thing with choosing a name is that you both love it, closely followed by it’s meaning to you. So I want to encourage you to look past the popularity of the initials if find names you love.

If you went with [name_u]James[/name_u] as his first name, it would flow better with a middle that doesn’t also end in ‘s’ sound. However, if you went with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] you could use [name_m]Miles[/name_m] as his middle. Some other first name options: [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_m]Jove[/name_m], [name_m]Jared[/name_m] and [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]. Some other middle name options you may like: [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], [name_u]Maurice[/name_u], [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], [name_m]Marsden[/name_m] or [name_m]Maxence[/name_m]
