It’s most definitely a girl... Name hunt begins :)

My son will be a big brother this Fall and we are so excited to confirm a little girl will join the family. His name is [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. Hubby and I liked [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] for different reasons.

Him: Strong, Athlete’s with the name, unique.

Me: Irish origins but worn by multiple cultures, sounded like a full name, classic but underused.

We both loved the nickname potential. He goes by [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_m]Des[/name_m] or [name_u]Desi[/name_u]. Plus we haven’t met any other young kids with the name.

With our daughter, I’d like to find that sweet spot - vintage/classic, underused, feminine. Want them to sound like a sibset

Names that I like:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - Grandma’s middle
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - Great Grandmother
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Grandfather [name_m]Clement[/name_m]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]

Already taken:

Help us with our list. Any already stand out to you? [name_m]New[/name_m] ideas always welcome!

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is a sweet and strong name.

congratulations on your little girl and the names from your list that stand out to me are [name_f]Vera[/name_f] I adore this name ( it was my great grandmas) and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].

Names that I would suggest might fit are [name_f]Nura[/name_f]/ [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Muriel[/name_f] or [name_f]Maira[/name_f].

Congratulations and I love the name [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]! My favourites on your list are [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. Maybe you would also like…

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

From your list I like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] being my favourite.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are nice, but I feel like they are too popular against the name [name_m]Desmond[/name_m].

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - This is a good match for [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. Instantly recognizable, yet rarely heard. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] fits with modern trends, but there’s still something striking about her.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] - I love all three of these names, but since you are concerned about popularity, these are not the names for you. I love that [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] are family names, and I think any of the three would be perfect in the middle spot, especially next to classic [name_u]James[/name_u].

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, but I’m not convinced of it next to [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. The rest of your list feels more tailored, graceful, distinctly feminine. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is all spunk and pizzazz. Still, I love that it’s a family name and there is lots of wonderful nickname potential. I would still consider it a strong contender.

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] - Again, I think popularity is an issue here. I know so many [name_f]Alanna[/name_f], [name_f]Alena[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Alayna[/name_f], Ellies, etc. I think she’d likely be lost in a crowd of similar names. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] on it’s own seems like a good option for you, or the even more rarely used [name_f]Leta[/name_f]/[name_f]Leda[/name_f].

[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] - Something about [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] seems dated to me. Nothing wrong with it, I suppose, but not nearly as stylish as [name_m]Desmond[/name_m].

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - A good match with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], in terms of style, popularity, image. But is it too similar? I tend to not be a fan of matching initials between siblings.

Suggestions from your list:
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

Other suggestions:

[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]/[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]

Good luck! [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is a beautiful name (my mother planned to call me Desmond James had I been a boy actually), I’m sure you will find something you love just as much this time around.

Congrats! [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] is such a wonderful, underused classic name. From your list, I like:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]: The perfect sister for [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. Vintage, classic, evocative, and underused.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]: Such a sweet name, and I love the honor connection. This is a perfect sister for [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]!
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]: This is just gorgeous, and a vibrant name that many parents overlook.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]: [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] would make the coolest sibset ever! Both names have quirk and distinctiveness, yet a lot of elegance.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] are wonderful, but I think they’re a bit overly popular. While I love [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], I think it’s a stylistic mismatch here.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is dashing!

Here are my thoughts on your girl list:

[name_f]Vera[/name_f]-I never could get into this one. It feels like a stuffy old lady. It does fit your criteria well though, & by no means is an awful name. Not sure what a nn here would be. [name_f]Vivie[/name_f] is cute.

[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]-This is nice. It doesn’t super sparkle for me, but it’s pretty.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - I love this. It’s classic, strong & feminine. I love the nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] too. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] though, are getting sort of popular.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] -Very nice, but I probably don’t have to tell you that it’s way over done.

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] -Perfect! It’s a little quirky & charming, yet old fashioned. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. I like the nns [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] or [name_f]Minnie[/name_f].

[name_f]Elena[/name_f]-This is nice. Not amazing, but a nice solid name.

[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]-I don’t care for the harsh sound of this. And I feel as though pronunciation may be an issue. [name_m]Cor[/name_m]-in vs. [name_m]Cor[/name_m]-een.

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]-This is fun & whimsical. I’d personally avoid repeating initials, but not a deal breaker if you love it. No real nns though here.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I’m just going to second all this. I would add [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], but I don’t know if I like better than [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. I like both a ton

From your list, my favorite is definitely [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] would be lovely!

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] is my favorite of your options. Other suggestions are [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and to a lesser extent, [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], from your list, though I wonder if [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (and there are many other [name_f]El[/name_f] names around) is too popular for you? [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is quirky and fun but i’m not keen on having 2 D names.

[name_f]Clemency[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Anthea[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]

I like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] a lot! Very cute!

First I just want to say that I love your son’s name! And congratulations on the impending arrival of baby number 2.

From your current list you have some great choices, I especially like [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] because like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] it’s classic but underused, and it feels substantial in just two syllables.
I also think [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is a delightfully creative way to honor a [name_m]Clement[/name_m] as opposed to say [name_f]Clemence[/name_f] (though I do like [name_f]Clemence[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] has a certain sparkle to it.)

Others you might like:
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f] (can be used to honor [name_f]Elena[/name_f] as these are regional variants of the same name.)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] this name is in multiple cultures and has Celtic roots meaning “daughter of the sea”)
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] (maybe too popular? Definitely has that “complete” feel like [name_m]Desmond[/name_m])
[name_f]Nadine[/name_f] (gives me a similar vibe to [name_f]Corinne[/name_f])
[name_f]Cosette[/name_f] (another that feels a lot like [name_f]Corinne[/name_f])
[name_f]Una[/name_f] (strong and complete for only 3 letters, classic Irish name that travels well, a bit like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] but nowhere near as popular)
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] (could use [name_f]Emma[/name_f] as a nickname but is different enough from [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] to not be too matchy)
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] (a bit like [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], familiar but less popular than [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], or [name_f]Vera[/name_f])
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] (English but used throughout the UK and very popular in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] but not super common in the US, short but complete feeling, reminds me of names on your list like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f])
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (strong and feminine, sounds great with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], substantial like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f])
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (like [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f], short but complete, accessible Irish pick)
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] (like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], strong, sleek, feminine)
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] (like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], flowery but not frilly)
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], can be used to honor [name_f]Emma[/name_f], which can also be used as a nickname)
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]/[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] (very similar to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is darling, and well outside the top 100 names)
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] (Scottish with Irish counterparts, crosses cultures easy, familiar but has a comparable popularity to [name_m]Desmond[/name_m])
[name_f]Moira[/name_f] (like [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], established Irish and Gaelic name, sounds lovely with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m])
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] or [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (brighter/livelier and a bit more feminine than [name_f]Frances[/name_f] without loosing the punch, a bit like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f])
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f] (a bit like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f], accessible Irish name that is underused)
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f] (a bit like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Vera[/name_f], if you don’t mind matching initials this is another great and underused Irish/Gaelic choice)
[name_f]Leanora[/name_f] (can honor [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and isn’t as trendy)

Of your list, I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] fits your needs the best.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Amoret[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Maureen[/name_f]
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Natasha[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Janelle[/name_f]

I really like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Vera[/name_f] sounds quite nice

I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] so much! It’s unique and beautiful.
I do like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as a name though.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] goes nicely next to [name_m]Desmond[/name_m].

[name_m]Desmond[/name_m] has always been a favorite of mine (it’s actually a strong contender if we ever have a second boy). [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] is such a fantastic names!

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] jumped out at me immediately because those are also our top two girl names! So, obviously, those are my picks for your sib-set. And, might I say, you have FANTASTIC taste!

I’m trying to convince my family to name baby #3 [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]. Hubby thinks it’s too orange for a resume. My 5yo says it would be weird when their daycare teacher says “[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] do you want a clementine?” Personally I think it’s lovely and vintage and cheery all in one perfect name. I don’t think it’s too popular but I’m in the US. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is our backup and it’s super popular here. I hope you get to use [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]!

My favorite’s for you are [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f], all are lovely, unusual and are a great sister to [name_m]Desmond[/name_m]. I think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] would be a great middle too. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is a little choppy flow wise for most of the first, but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] would be a nice compromise.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be my top choices for you!
