After all the kerfuffle with girls names we welcomed a lovely little man on the 1st of [name_u]August[/name_u]!
His name is [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] [name_m]Lyons[/name_m] and we have been calling him [name_m]Penn[/name_m].
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] I have loved for ages, as has been the right boy name from the very beginning. We have the falcons around where we live and my grandmother passedaway form cancer last year and St [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] is the patron saint for that. [name_m]Lyons[/name_m] is the maiden name of my great great grandmother who was the first of our family to come to Australia from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] when she was only 15, and the middle name of my lovely uncle.
Thanks to everyone for reassuring me about using [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], and helping us find the nn [name_m]Penn[/name_m]!
Congratulations on the birth of your little boy! I absolutely love the name [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]! His namesake, St. [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], is a very special [name_m]Saint[/name_m] and his intercession has been prayed for a lot in my family. I love the story behind his mn [name_m]Lyons[/name_m] also, and [name_m]Penn[/name_m] is a wonderful nn.

[name_m]Penn[/name_m] is a perfect nickname for [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]. It probably comes from the beginning and ending sounds. There are no rules when giving a nn. It doesn’t have to be the obvious choice. [name_m]Penn[/name_m] is so handsome for a nn.

Nicknames are funny like that I suppose… I was going to be called [name_m]Penn[/name_m] if I was a boy (mum had all girls), and my 2 year old daughter actually said ‘Penanin’ when we mentioned the name to her, and someone suggested it on here as well, so it just felt like the best shortening… All the sounds are there…We also like [name_m]Pippin[/name_m] as a nn, which has been a long used nickname for [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], but that feels much more distant in sound to me.
My stepson [name_m]Orrin[/name_m] is called Oshie or Osh as that is how my daughter first pronounced his name, and my daughter [name_f]Iris[/name_f] gets called Ish for the same reason Would never have guessed that before they were born! And so far everyone he’s been introduced to has had no trouble making the connection
