Came across the name [name_f]Italia[/name_f] this morning & can’t get it out my head.
Thoughts on it? More suitable for FN or MN slot? Any MN suggestions welcome

It seems a little odd to me, since it’s Italian for [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. It’s like naming a child Deutschland or [name_f]England[/name_f].
If you aren’t Italian I’d say it’s better suited to the middle name slot.
I actually really like it. There is also an actress named [name_f]Italia[/name_f] [name_m]Ricci[/name_m].
I’m British not Italian but I suppose I don’t see it any different from people naming their kids [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_u]Dakota[/name_u], [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] or any other place names.
Think it may be more suited for a MN though just because of the associations with [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. Not sure what to put in front of it though, been toying with [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_f]Italia[/name_f] but not sure I’m ready to part with [name_u]Robin[/name_u] O’hanna
If you wanted a ‘name’ version, one option could be to go with [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Talia[/name_f]
Wouldn’t recommend naming a child that but better as a middle name.
I really like [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] but it’s one of those names I love one minute & then feel ‘blah’ about the next. Could be a lovely way to ‘use’ [name_f]Italia[/name_f] as such & not get so many crazy looks though lol
[name_f]Italia[/name_f] is actually used as a name among Italians. [name_f]Italia[/name_f] Coppola was the child of Italian immigrants to the United States. So I don’t think it’s weird.
I agree that it would be a bit too weird as a fn. Yeah, you can name a kid [name_f]India[/name_f] or [name_f]China[/name_f], but [name_f]Italia[/name_f] is Italian for [name_f]Italy[/name_f], and it would be a bit weird to use it if you don’t have Italian roots. But if you want to use it as a mn, I guess I see no problem in that.
I’m not one for place names, so I’m biased, but I think you should go with [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Talia[/name_f]. I’m half italian, myself =]
[name_f]Italia[/name_f] is a nice name, not really my taste but I think it’s usable. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Talia[/name_f], it seems more familiar. Maybe you would consider [name_f]Rialta[/name_f], or [name_f]Idalia[/name_f]? Good luck!
I think it fits into the category of pretty words that are sadly unusable.
I’ve been trying to push [name_u]Domino[/name_u] for years but it doesn’t appeal to anyone but me
I love this name
I know an [name_f]Italia[/name_f], she’s an Australian of Italian heritage. I found it strange at first but since [name_f]Tahlia[/name_f] is a top 100 name it’s not so weird over here. It was given to 13 babies in the UK if that influences your decision at all.
Nice to see some positive comments on it, thanks! I just can’t shake the name, it’s such a pretty name to me, though I think Im definitely restricted to the MN spot with it sadly.
Not trying to be rude at all but can you explain why it’s different naming a child India, China etc. to naming a child Italia? I honest don’t see any different.
I really quite like Domino though as more as a MN I think, something like Cassisus Domino or Sebastian Dominio comes to mind - I actually might have to put one of those on my list now lol. I’ve got a lot of fond memories playing the game so it works for me
I think it’s actually quite cute, and very feminine.
To reassure you, [name_f]Italia[/name_f] is a very real name. It was used in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] between 1900 and 1950 I’d say, so it’s pretty old fashioned now, but after hearing of little girls named [name_f]Asia[/name_f] here in [name_f]Italy[/name_f], or the myriad of place names the English language has, I think [name_f]Italia[/name_f] is usable. Now, I agree with the others that it has a strong connection to the country, so the questions might come, but it would work in the MN spot. Works definitely better than [name_f]Italy[/name_f], if you really want to honor the country, to be honest
It’s a real name, so I don’t see an issue with it. It is very beautiful but I find all words in Italian so beautiful.
[name_f]Italia[/name_f] isn’t really my thing, but I can see the appeal. I’ve met a couple Italos, so [name_f]Italia[/name_f] doesn’t seem much different. I do like [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]/[name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Talia[/name_f], [name_u]Tally[/name_u], and [name_f]Athalia[/name_f] more, personally, but it is a nice name. I think something like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Italia[/name_f] or [name_f]Italia[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would be lovely.
Good luck!
