[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries,
I have a character in my fantasy series who I’ve had a lot of trouble naming. He’s been [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Emilian[/name_m], [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], and [name_m]Navarre[/name_m], but none have ever quite clicked with him.
Recently [name_u]Sol[/name_u] popped into my brain and it feels like a perfect fit, but too short on it’s own. So I need a first name that lends itself easily to that as a nickname.
He’s from a culture based on ancient [name_u]Rome[/name_u], so Latin/Italian names are preferred, hence my issue with the length of [name_u]Sol[/name_u]. For context he has a brother named [name_m]Domenico[/name_m] and a sister named Iulia; a former lover is [name_f]Caecilia[/name_f] and their daughter is [name_f]Celestina[/name_f]. His parents were Samaire and [name_m]Leandro[/name_m]. Ideally his name won’t end in ‘o’ as that’s too similar to his brother’s in sound. He spends most of the book with [name_m]Domenico[/name_m] so their names will be side by side a lot.
He was [name_u]Solaris[/name_u] for a little while, but that doesn’t fit the naming conventions of his country (think [name_m]Roman[/name_m] emperor/empress names!) He was also Solvatore (instead of [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m], how smart am I?) but it just doesn’t look or read right to me with that spelling?
tl;dr How can I get to [name_u]Sol[/name_u] as a nickname?
Thank you
