It's a Boy! Thoughts on Oliver?

So we had an ultrasound and found out that [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] will be getting a little brother! Now to come up with a boy name! Right now I am really liking the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. It’s not one I had considered too much in the past, but something about it has caught my attention recently. I know it is in the top 3 in the UK, and in the top 100 in the US - curious what it’s “real life” popularity is? I have never met an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! So I would like some opinions…

What do you think of the name?
Your thoughts on how it goes with my sibset?
What type of child/person do you picture named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s? If so, what are their ages? (For this one can you please state what country you live in, and if in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], what province?)
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the name will continue to rise drastically in popularity (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f])? Is he likely to be “[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] M” in his class of 3 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s?
Any other thoughts?

If you don’t like the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] - or don’t think it fits with my sibset, please suggest some other names. Others we have considered so far are [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts:)

What do you think of the name? [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] grows on me more and more as time goes on. I think it is sweet, handsome, and playful.
Your thoughts on how it goes with my sibset? I adore [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
What type of child/person do you picture named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]? Honestly, for me, I can easily picture [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] on many different personality types.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s? If so, what are their ages? I have lived in four different states. I have never met an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the name will continue to rise drastically in popularity (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f])? Is he likely to be “[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] M” in his class of 3 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s? Only time will tell.

[name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and think it fits great with [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. (especially [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]) I know people like to play the name imagery game, but I do think it’s kind of silly, as all types of people/children wear all types of names, and it’s totally subjective. BUT, I can say that I picture an adorable little boy with this name. Like, especially adorable (though probably due in large part to the name).

I know of two [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]‘s… both under a year. I don’t have a lot of contact with kids, just know of the kids at my son’s daycare and friends’/coworkers’ kids. I do get the sense that it is increasing in popularity, but I don’t think it is headed to the top 25.

I also love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] feels dated; would he go by [name_m]Jeff[/name_m]? [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]?

I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! I have only met one [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and that was years ago!! And I also love it with your other names!! Very cute!!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. My six month old son is named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] ( [name_u]Olly[/name_u]).
love it with [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m].
Yes, it is getting more popular unfortunately. Still think it is a wonderful name.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] the name [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] too. [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] would make a nice middle name. eg [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] or [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m].
Congrats and good luck!

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! It fits amazing with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f].

What type of child/person do you picture named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s? If so, what are their ages? (For this one can you please state what country you live in, and if in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], what province?) I live in the US, I know three or so, the oldest is 5 the youngest is probably a year old now.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think the name will continue to rise drastically in popularity (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f])? Is he likely to be “[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] M” in his class of 3 [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]’s? Maybe. It tends to be a name that most everyone likes, a lot of people consider, but not a lot of people choose.

Thank you all very much for your thoughts – I’m happy to hear others love the name as well.

Emsky, if we went with [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] he would most likely go by [name_m]Jeff[/name_m] if a short form was used - I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. That being said, I don’t think I love [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] or [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] quite as much as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].

Jenevievem, [name_u]Olly[/name_u] is the nn we would go with as well if this boy is named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], I think [name_u]Olly[/name_u] is adorable! I also really like your suggestion of [name_m]Jeffery[/name_m] in the middle, I agree it sounds great with [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

I just went and checked the names stats database for my province for 2012 and was shocked to find [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] was the 25th most popular name in the province! There were 131 babies named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] in [name_f]Alberta[/name_f] in 2012. Definitely more popular than my other two, but I am quite surprised as I said, I have never met an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. It certainly causes some concern for what the number will be when the 2013 stats are released - or the 2014 numbers as this little one will be a 2014 baby.

Would still love to hear more opinions on the name if anyone has any to share:)

I’m in the UK and I know quite a few around my own age (13 - 17 or so), and I hear of it quite a bit as well when I’m out and stuff. That being said, it still grows on me as time goes on. It’s handsome yet playful, serious yet sweet, and has a great history with a bunch of great namesakes! I know it’s a lot more popular here than overseas but I’m pretty sure it’s rising fairly quickly elsewhere, no doubt due to the popularity of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It depends how much that bothers you, I guess. If having another kid in his class with the same name is such a huge concern I suggest you keep looking, but otherwise, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s great! That’s why so many other people are catching on to it

I have my own [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is great as well.

is misspelled so no.

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a nice name.

And [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is a wonderful name. The name of my beloved white teddy bear smashed flat with love. A cuddly name and yet sexy. Soft but not unmanly.

I wouldn’t worry about its popularity b/c it is so good a name.

And it is completely irrelevant what his siblings are named. We are not pairing wines here, but naming human beings, and you have chosen some super names!
