My husband keeps shooting down my name choices!!
First choice was [name]Phoebe[/name]. He is SO against it, he keeps talking about the Friends reference and I say who the heck cares :x
Second choice was [name]Rowan[/name], he thinks it sounds too boyish.
So I suggested [name]Clover[/name], he seems to like that. Is it really a good name for a little girl? Not too silly? I like unique names, my son is named [name]Phineas[/name]. I don’t want her to be the 5th [name]Isabelle[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name] in her kindergarten class and I’m not afraid to use a unique name. I just don’t want it to be SO unique it’s ridiculous, you know?
[name]Clover[/name] intrigues me–I can’t quite decide how I feel about it. I like it’s spunkiness but worry about how it will age. [name]Clo[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Vera[/name] are nns that might reign in some of [name]Clover[/name]'s unusualness. I think [name]Phineas[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] make a cute but slightly clunky sibset (not that sibling names are the most important thing).
I think [name]Clover[/name] is great. It’s unusual but not totally out there and she can even use the nickname [name]Cloe[/name] if she wants something a little more common. Personally I’d pair it with a more traditional middle name. I like [name]Clover[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] [name]Elise[/name].
I love [name]Clover[/name], although I would never be bold enough to use it so I know exactly what your saying! Maybe you could try to meet somewhere between [name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] like:
[name]Clover[/name]'s cute, but I wouldn’t want to be [name]Clover[/name], myself. I really like [name]Phineas[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name]. Have you mentioned to Him that [name]Phoebe[/name] means light? I think it’s a lovely name that ages well.
[name]Clover[/name] has enough nickname options to be feasable but it’s still a bit “too”. Showy, grandstandy, you get me? [name]Phineas[/name] & [name]Clover[/name] don’t feel like siblings to me, particularly.
I know you didn’t say you were looking for other suggestions but here’s a few that I feel split the difference between [name]Phoebe[/name] & [name]Clover[/name]:
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name]
Sunniva
[name]Linnea[/name]
[name]Rosaline[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Evadne[/name]
[name]Clarisse[/name]
[name]Saffron[/name]
[name]Mimosa[/name] (I love [name]Mim[/name] on a little girl!)
[name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Lilias[/name]
[name]Aster[/name]/[name]Freesia[/name]/Florimel
Rosamel
[name]Sibyl[/name]/[name]Sybil[/name]
Thanks for the input everyone! I really do appreciate the suggestions. I love [name]Elise[/name] as a middle name
I am still totally stuck on [name]Phoebe[/name], I wonder if I can wear him down if I keep trying I always thought it was the perfect sibling name for [name]Phineas[/name] too!
The other name I was thinking of is [name]Daisy[/name]. I like girly names but not ones that are overly girly if that makes sense? Nothing that ends in belle or ‘liana’ or anything like that.
What about [name]Margaret[/name] or one of her variations with [name]Daisy[/name] as a nn?
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Margery[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Margarita[/name] (problematic–I probably wouldn’t use this one)
[name]Margot[/name]
And here are some flower/nature names that aren’t too cutesy (sorry for repeats):
[name]Ivy[/name]*
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name]*
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Hyacinth[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Jonquil[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]*
[name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]*
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
Oh, I love [name]Clover[/name]. Then again I am basically a sucker for all nature names. If you really like it I say go with it. [name]Phineas[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] make wonderful siblings. [name]Phineas[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] may be a bit much with the Ph* starts and [name]Phineas[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] sound more like brothers to me. Some other names you may like:
[name]Amabel[/name]
[name]Audra[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Elodia[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Jacinda[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Kerenza[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Liesel[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
Lua
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Rhiannon[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Sidonia[/name]
[name]Tahlia[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Thora[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
Does it go with [name]Phineas[/name]? Not particularly, but it isn’t awful either. I assume [name]Phineas[/name] goes by [name]Finn[/name], and I think [name]Clover[/name] & [name]Finn[/name] sounds great.
Now it is, I believe, inevitable she gets nicknamed [name]Chloe[/name] - not bad at all but be prepared.
I don’t like [name]Daisy[/name] at all. Not as a proper name. It’s not substantial enough. Names that might be nicknamed [name]Daisy[/name]:
[name]Phineas[/name]= Phinn or [name]Phinny[/name], or Foofy  It’s usually [name]Phineas[/name] or [name]Phinny[/name] though.
I would definitely be worried about [name]Cloey[/name]/[name]Chloe[/name] being a nickname. I don’t really dislike that name but it just reminds me of a certain Kardashian and I’m not really down with that. Besides DH always pronounces her name “[name]Clo[/name]” (without the ‘e’ sound) to make me mad lol!
I like [name]Maisie[/name], I’m not sure how I feel about [name]Margaret[/name] though- we use the long version of my kids’ names and I have never liked being named [name]Katherine[/name] because I ALWAYS have gone by [name]Katie[/name] and it feels awkward sometimes when I have to use it on paperwork and stuff like that. I know not everyone feels that way obviously!
So I guess I don’t mind using shorter names or just using the shortened name on the birth cert instead of the long form/nickname combo. I am definitely wearing my husband down on [name]Phoebe[/name] though! I’m trying to make him look for middle names now
I personally would not want to be named [name]Clover[/name]. It seems like a name of a pet to be honest. Phineus is great, but [name]Clover[/name] just doesnt compare to it.
What about:
[name]Juniper[/name]- a little more mature with the down to earth nn [name]June[/name]
[name]Linnea[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Aster[/name]
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Aurelia[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
I just wanted to try and convince you to use the name [name]Phoebe[/name] over [name]Clover[/name]! My name is [name]Phoebe[/name], and i really love the name. It’s feminine, classic and different, I think if you really love the name then you should go for it! I’m sure people won’t associate it with Friends too much as that was quite a while ago. it’s such a lovely name to have, I say use it if you possibly can
My dd is [name]Phoebe[/name] and while I obviously [name]LOVE[/name] the name I am not sure it is the best fit with [name]Phineas[/name].
My other faves:
[name]Polly[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this name so much and I think it is in the 900s SSA
Aven - Random for me but I think it is SO pretty and I have never heard it on a child
[name]Ramsey[/name] - [name]Just[/name] love this. Knew a little girl with this name and it has stuck with me
Hathaway - Other little girl I babysat 20+ years ago and I love this name too. [name]Haven[/name]'t met another.
Good luck!
I personally love [name]Clover[/name]. I think [name]Cloe[/name] is a great nickname, too. I love almost all flower / plant names and I don’t see how one can be usable over another. I don’t think it’s any less usable than [name]Daisy[/name] or [name]Magnolia[/name]. [name]Clover[/name] [name]Elise[/name] is adorable, too. I also like [name]Clover[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name]. Something very formal and classic in the middle would be best, I think. To even it out and tone it down a bit.
I also love [name]Phoebe[/name] and think that’s another fantastic choice.
Either paired with [name]Phineas[/name] is fine by me. Overly matchy sibsets aren’t a concern for me. My son is [name]Caleb[/name] and my [name]Angel[/name] is [name]Felicity[/name]. [name]Caleb[/name] is a lot more popular than [name]Felicity[/name] is and a bit more mainstream, but that doesn’t bother me.
