My husband and I came across this site and thought it was wonderful! We’re looking for a name for our second daughter, because we can’t find something that quite works.
My husband is half Japanese (from his mom) and half English, and I’m full on European-mutt.
Our first daughter is Sachi [name]Elizabeth[/name].
My husband picked out Sachi, a Japanese name he loved that means “child of happiness”. I chose [name]Elizabeth[/name] after my grandmother. We love her name! She’s almost 3, and fits her name perfectly! She definitely got some asian features from her daddy, but big blue eyes from her mommy!
For our second daughter, we want to choose a first name that isn’t Japanese. We instead want to put a Japanese name in the middle, but honor our European heritage with the first name.
Now here’s our dilemma: We’re having trouble coming up with British/American first names that go well with Sachi!
A few I like: [name]Clara[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] (but we already used [name]Elizabeth[/name])
Hubby hasn’t found any he likes.
I love [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]. I love [name]Eliza[/name], but I don’t think that you can you it when you’ve already used [name]Elizabeth[/name]. What about [name]Iris[/name] or [name]Eloise[/name] instead?
I think that [name]Daphne[/name] would be absolutely adorable with Sachi. Or maybe [name]Poppy[/name]? [name]Adela[/name]? [name]Vashti[/name] (I suppose this isn’t immediately intuitively British, but it makes me think of [name]Vashti[/name] [name]Bunyan[/name], the English folk singer)? [name]Penelope[/name]? [name]Ivy[/name]? [name]Ruby[/name]?
[name]Naomi[/name] is a name both used in European culture (via the Bible/Hebrew) and in Japanese. Its meaning relates to pleasant things, and I think that’s nice to tie in to Sachi’s name’s meaning. If you like [name]Naomi[/name], I like [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Chiyo[/name] for a combo…
Of the choices you are considering above I like [name]Tessa[/name] best - the “sa” ties them in, it’s somewhat unusual to go along with Sachi, and it’s asset backwards, another positive connotation in meaning. I like [name]Tessa[/name] Mayu or [name]Tessa[/name] Izumi…
[name]Farrah[/name] and [name]Gwyneth[/name] are two names more in the Western traditions whose names relate to happiness as well, which are both sort of unusual to go with Sachi. I like [name]Farrah[/name] Mayu and [name]Farrah[/name] Sayuri and [name]Gwyneth[/name] [name]Aiko[/name] or [name]Gwyneth[/name] Aika.
You like [name]Eliza[/name] and seem to like the “A” names in Japanese ideas. Have you considered [name]Alice[/name] as a first name? Has a similar feel to the few others you mention. I think [name]Alice[/name] Sayuri would be a lovely combo.
So far we like from everyone’s suggestions: [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Hana[/name] (DH loves it, most likely because it’s Japanese), and [name]Naomi[/name]
We love [name]Daphne[/name] Asami and [name]Josephine[/name] Izumi! Thank you so much :)!
My husband is particularly excited by the [name]Daphne[/name] Asami combo.
We love Suzu! It means little bell :).
My husban actually really likes [name]Willa[/name]. He said Sachi and [name]Willa[/name] go great together. Shocking from a guy whose barely liked any names yet! He likes [name]Mina[/name], too
