It's just not happening!

What names would you love to use for your kids, but for one reason or another – sibling names, popularity, spouse hates it – you just can’t do it? Here are mine:

Boys:
[name]Shiloh[/name] - because of the [name]Jolie[/name]-Pitts
[name]Pax[/name] - see above
[name]Michael[/name]/[name]Peter[/name]/[name]Edward[/name] - hate the nicknames, too common, and tons of people with these names in our families! Maybe as middles…
[name]Mordecai[/name] - love the OT character, but I can’t stand the idea of him being called “[name]Mordy[/name]”!

Girls:
[name]Leda[/name] - beautiful name, but everyone finds out what their name means eventually – and [name]Leda[/name] and the swan is a pretty dark story for a little kid!
[name]Edith[/name] - nn [name]Edie[/name]; husband won’t go for it
[name]Esme[/name] - too close to big sister [name]Ezra[/name]!

Also, [name]Sonora[/name] (nn [name]Nora[/name]) – after the region in Mexico (I’m a big fan of [name]Cormac[/name] [name]McCarthy[/name]'s The Crossing); husband won’t go for it, and it sounds too much like “sonorous.”

Interesting topic! My favorite girl’s name is [name]Caroline[/name], but we could not use it for our daughter, because it was much too long with our
3-syllable last name, which also has 10 letters in it!
So, we went with [name]Emily[/name], instead. (Which I like, but I wish we could have used [name]Caroline[/name]!)

[name]Allegra[/name] and [name]Jemima[/name]. Allergy medication and syrup.

Two of my absolute favorite names, [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name], my partner hates! He says [name]Felix[/name] is a cats name and [name]Sebastian[/name] is just “goofy.” Whatever that means. I’m not going to drop it though. My plan is to not mention the names for several years and then when we do have kids bring them up again and see what he says. At the very least maybe I can get them as middles.

I would also love to use [name]Teresa[/name] in honor of my aunt. However, he also has an aunt [name]Teresa[/name] that is crazy and evil. He says he cant get over that.

I love [name]Kaia[/name], but my son’s name is [name]Kai[/name] lol

I also love [name]Ava[/name]- such a shame that it has become so trendy.

Most of my list I won’t be using because my husband doesn’t like them

Girls
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Ambria[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]

Boys
[name]Aiden[/name] (too popular, along with all its variations)
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name]
[name]Isaiah[/name]

Definitely [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Emma[/name]. I think they are great names, but because they are so popular it automatically makes them not my style. My fiance doesn’t get that. He’s like, “if we like it we like it.” I just can’t do trendy. (My name’s [name]Jessica[/name])

I’ve also always liked [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Alyssa[/name], and [name]Elizabeth[/name], but they are way to normal for my style.

I really like [name]Isla[/name], but it seems like it is about to be the new [name]Ella[/name]…ah!

[name]Starling[/name]

[name]Ravenna[/name]

[name]Aquinnah[/name]- dh is from Oklahoma so he doesn’t like using native american names as we are not native americans, but I think its lovely.

[name]Quinn[/name] (our surname begins with N so really any first names ending with N are out.)

Hubby says no way to most any name I like, so eventually he won’t have a say!!! But these I won’t use since they probably won’t be well received by either of our families or won’t flow well with our surname.

Oh, I like [name]Allegra[/name] too! Same reason, also

My nephew’s name is [name]Sebastian[/name], which really seems to fit him, but his unfortunate nickname is “Sebassie” (or sometimes “Sebassie-wass”). He’s seven…

I feel like every name I start to like falls in this category! [name]Theresa[/name] nn [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name] nn [name]Tom[/name] both sound like a stutter with my ln. [name]Luke[/name] is my bil and hubby doesn’t want to use it. [name]James[/name] is his “weird” uncle so no go there as well. His brother used [name]John[/name] for his son. Our last name [name]Tyson[/name] is of course the same as a not-so-nice boxer which rules out [name]Michael[/name]. I also realized that it rules out [name]George[/name] because [name]George[/name] [name]Tyson[/name] makes me think of a [name]George[/name] Foreman-[name]Mike[/name] [name]Tyson[/name] boxing match. [name]Add[/name] to these most fn ending in “-n”. Some in my family have definately used them anyway but many sound awful with our last name- like [name]Ben[/name] (for [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Bennett[/name]). I also seem drawn to Ma- names but with a [name]Mark[/name] already I know a [name]Max[/name] or [name]Matt[/name] would be way too confusing. Similarly I have a [name]Clare[/name] but also like names like [name]Cara[/name] for girls and [name]Karl[/name] for boys which are just way too close. Finally, I like [name]Cora[/name], [name]Maura[/name], and [name]Nora[/name] but they all rhyme with my first name. Okay, rant over.
