So i have posted several times now about finding a nn for my daughter [name]Virginia[/name]. I thought I would like [name]GInny[/name], i don’t and now I’ve spent a year obsessing over what to call her. I’ve accepted that I’m suffering from a little namer’s remorse. The name wasn’t my first choice but more of a compromise with dh. What I want to call her, but i can’t really justify is [name]Ivey[/name]. I love the name and I think it really suits her but it just seems like too much of a stretch. I want her to have a super cute nn so bad. SO what would you call your daughter if her name was [name]Virginia[/name]?
If you want to call her [name]Ivey[/name], go ahead! You don’t have to have a reason to justify a nickname. My cousin is called KayKay and her real name is [name]Caroline[/name]. The whole family calls her KayKay because her older sister called her that when they were little. KayKay is almost eight now and she still goes by her nn. It doesn’t matter the reason; if the nickname fits the child and you like it, go for it!
[name]Hope[/name] this helps!
Not sure why I spelled [name]Ivy[/name] as [name]Ivey[/name]. I would spell it [name]Ivy[/name]. I guess I’m a little sleep deprived or something :?
She’s right - you can call your daughter whatever you want to! I mean, my parents call me [name]Birdie[/name] but my name’s [name]Lauren[/name] - I tell people on NB that all the time. [name]Just[/name] curious, but do you just like [name]Ivy[/name], or was she born around [name]Christmas[/name] (The [name]Holly[/name] and the [name]Ivy[/name]), or is her middle name [name]Ivy[/name]? Wondering where you came up with it…
[name]Lemon[/name]
She was born on [name]October[/name] 14th and her middle name is [name]June[/name]. I was just considering the name [name]Vivi[/name] and saw [name]Ivy[/name]. It was one of my favs when pregnant but dh didn’t like it.
Personally, I would feel like I was stretching to get to [name]Ivy[/name]. I think [name]Vivi[/name] is super-cute though or even just [name]Vi[/name]! Or you could even get [name]GiGi[/name] from [name]Virginia[/name]. Or [name]Junie[/name]?

I kind of compromised with my husband on my daughter’s name too. It’s not that I don’t like her name, I do - but it’s not in the style I am typically drawn to - it was her nn that ended up selling me on using her actual name.
I agree with the above posters - you can nn her anything you want! I knew a [name]Virginia[/name]/[name]Ginny[/name] when I was a teenager, personally I don’t really care for that nickname, but I think either [name]Vivi[/name] or [name]Gigi[/name] would perfect and absolutely adorable nicknames for [name]Virginia[/name].
I love [name]Junie[/name] but for some reason dh hates it. What about [name]Gia[/name], [name]Nia[/name] or [name]Ginya[/name]? which of those do you berries like?
I absolutely love [name]Gia[/name]! I’m forever trying to find names where [name]Gia[/name] can be a nn because I think it’s adorable so I’d definitely go with that for [name]Virginia[/name]'s nn - I wouldn’t have even thought of it but it makes perfect sense!
[name]Nia[/name] is cute too But I love [name]Gia[/name]!
Also…on the overly cutesy side lol, Junebug
I love [name]Gia[/name] or [name]Gigi[/name] for [name]Virginia[/name]…on a personal note, my daughter’s name is [name]Iris[/name] and I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] her name but I call her Pumpkin and I RARELY call her [name]Iris[/name]. In fact, if you ask her what her name is she’ll tell you [name]Iris[/name] [name]Leia[/name] [name]Ann[/name] Pumpkin! My name is [name]Marcy[/name] but my dad calls me Bean, apparently because I looked like a little bean one day while I was sleeping on the couch as a baby. Oh, and btw, I don’t know if you’ve seen Iron [name]Man[/name] but [name]Tony[/name] Stark has a famed assistant named [name]Pepper[/name] Potts and her first name is [name]Virginia[/name] The point is, if you’re going to have a nickname for your kid it doesn’t have to derive from any part of their birth name. Call her whatever comes to you.
how about via (vee-uh)? The first letter is the same, it ends the same, and the “i” accounts for the three i’s in virginia. I might be totally off with this, but I felt proud of myself for thinking of it otherwise, I do like [name]Gia[/name]!
my first thought was [name]Gina[/name] (geen-uh), which might be a slight stretch.
Thanks for all your help! I really liked the idea of [name]Via[/name] but then starbucks came out with their new instant coffee of the same name and it lost its appeal for me.
I think i"m settled with [name]Nia[/name]. I liked [name]Gia[/name] too but it does remind me of [name]Stephanie[/name]'s smoking, rebellious friend on Full House. Also [name]Nia[/name] has really cool meanings in Welsh and Swahili. Dh likes it to so I guess it’s finally settled!
I don’t even remember a [name]Gia[/name] on Full House! [name]How[/name] funny that this is what you think of with [name]Gia[/name].
I love [name]Gia[/name], [name]Nia[/name], [name]Vi[/name], and [name]Ivi[/name] with an I as it ties in a bit more with [name]Virginia[/name], if that is a link you are looking for. I do agree that a nickname is ANY name you choose so go with your gut!
