It's twins! But we need names ...

So, my husband and I thought we’d try for one more child, and now we’re having twins! We’re absolutely thrilled (and a little nervous), but they’re due quite soon and we don’t have many ideas for names.

We have two children at the moment, their names are [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (who we mostly call [name]Ellie[/name]), and [name]Gavin[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]. We’d like them to go together to some extent, but not be too similar. We’re not obsessed with having rare names, but I’d prefer to keep our choices out of the top 100. We’re having twin girls.

Our problem at the moment is that so far, the only names that my husband and I can both agree on are [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name]. I’m a little conflicted though, because I have a couple of issues with them. First off, I worry that [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] are too similar for twins, but I can’t decide. Second, [name]Rose[/name] is more popular than I was hoping for, but I really like the name and it’s one of my husband’s favourites so I’m not sure. Also, we’re having a hard time thinking of middle names. Any ideas? It shouldn’t start with a hard C or a K, because our surname starts with a C and ends in -yle (two syllables) and we don’t want that sing-song sound.

So … thoughts, middle name suggestions, other ideas for names?

Thanks.

Edit: I probably should have mentioned that I live in the UK. Rose is #76 according to the list I have. It’s very late here - racing mind and very sore back keeping me awake!

I’m having twin girls too (just posted some possible names in another thread). I like [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] a lot. I don’t think they’re too similar, though I do think it’s unusual to have two one-syllable names together, but not a bad thing, especially if your last name is at least two syllables. I don’t think of [name]Rose[/name] as particularly popular. It’s something like 291 on the list in the US, though I’m not sure where you are. You could always try another form of [name]Rose[/name], like [name]Rosalie[/name]. I love [name]June[/name], and my daughter’s name is [name]Juno[/name] (which has a much different feel, but is related, obviously).

Congrats on the twins!

[name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] would be great together! [name]Both[/name] are vibrant one syllable names with a slight retro feel. Middle name ideas (of course you can mix and match):

[name]June[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] & [name]Rose[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] & [name]June[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] & [name]June[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Abigail[/name] & [name]Rose[/name] [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] & [name]Rose[/name] [name]Verity[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] & [name]Rose[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] & [name]June[/name] [name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Annabel[/name] & [name]June[/name] [name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] & [name]June[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name]

For first names:
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]

Possible combinations:
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name] [name]Faith[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]Lorraine[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] [name]Joy[/name]
(^both [name]June[/name] and [name]Joy[/name] sounded good to me, [name]Joy[/name] is a fairly under-used virtue name that could work somewhat go with [name]Grace[/name])

I am not a huge fan of [name]June[/name]… as it sounds a little hard and plain [name]Jane[/name] for me.
I like [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Rosalie[/name].
Other suggestions:
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Jemma[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name]
[name]Jolie[/name]
[name]Joy[/name]

Aw congratulations that’s so exciting! And also nice to see another British nameberry fan; I love the site but it’s always a pain since name popularity between countries is actually SO different!

Anyway I would second what janetm said about a variation of [name]Rose[/name] like [name]Rosalie[/name] or something or you could use an international variation of the name such as [name]Roisin[/name] (unusual but I do know one so not completely unheard of) or [name]Roselle[/name]. As for the flowery combination, it is something you’d probably get asked a lot but if you’re okay with that then go for it. I think the names still have their own identity but also a twin link the girls themselves might like. I know people don’t recommend that kind of theme but at the end of the day it’s your choice

I did come across this the other day and it has lots of suggestions and ideas which might be useful for you: Twin Names: The Ultimate Guide | Nameberry

Good luck!

I think [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] are perfect! Honestly, my sons name is in the 30’s on the US popularity lists, and I rarely ever run into children with his name. I can count the number of them on one hand.

Middles:

[name]Rose[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Rose[/name] [name]Gwendolen[/name]

[name]June[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]

Wow, thank you all so much! Your advice was lovely - we think we’ve decided on names. What do you think about [name]Primrose[/name] [name]Victoria[/name] and either [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Juliet[/name] [name]May[/name]? Our pet names would still be [name]Rose[/name]/[name]Rosie[/name] and either [name]June[/name]/[name]Junie[/name] or [name]Jules[/name]/[name]Julie[/name]. My husband and I both really like [name]Primrose[/name], but I’m still not sure about [name]Juliet[/name] and we’re wondering if [name]Juniper[/name] has too harsh a sound compared to [name]Primrose[/name]. I’m also not entirely sure how well they go with [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Gavin[/name].

And so I return again. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I love [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]! I’m not a huge fan of [name]Primrose[/name]. [name]Primrose[/name] seems like less of a real name but it does match with [name]Juniper[/name].
I like [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] but can see why you might just want to use those as nn.

I like [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Rosette[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], or [name]Rosemary[/name].
I like [name]Junia[/name] and think that would be perfect with the nn [name]June[/name]. You could also use [name]Juno[/name].

I feel like [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Primrose[/name], and [name]Juniper[/name] wouldn’t really work.

I also like [name]Juliet[/name]. These would be a perfect sib set.
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Rose[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], and [name]Juliet[/name].
[name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], and [name]Junia[/name]

I love [name]Primrose[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] individually, but together, I’m not sure. They’re a little matchy. I really dislike [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Julie[/name] and [name]Jules[/name]. They just aren’t as pretty or elegant as your [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name] options. I love [name]Junia[/name] or [name]Juno[/name] with [name]Rosalie[/name] or [name]Rosemary[/name]. Or just [name]Rose[/name] and [name]June[/name].

[name]Juniper[/name] is beautiful especially with the nn [name]June[/name]. I think it actually sounds way less harsh than [name]Primrose[/name]. I don’t really like that name. I love [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] together.

I don’t care for [name]June[/name], but live [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Primrose[/name] but I am from US so that sounds odd to me. [name]How[/name] about [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Emma[/name]? Or [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Rose[/name]
