Iulia

What are you thoughts on [name]Iulia[/name]? Ancestor variant name of [name]Julia[/name], it means youthful and pronounced Yoo lee a.

For a character or a kid? It’s the same name as [name]Julia[/name]; the Romans didn’t have the letter “J”. In Latin you wouldn’t pronounce the ee-ah sounds separately; it would still be [name]Yul[/name]-ya. I had a Ukrainian student last year whose name was [name]Yuliya[/name]; same name.

I prefer [name]Julia[/name]. You are going to run into people who will not get the “I” as “J” unless they’ve taken Latin.

Oh, interesting. I’m reading a book at the moment with a character called this and a pronounciation guide which is why I brought it up. But thanks for the input.

I would assume, seeing it, that you had some Romanian (or similar) heritage, and were using the form of the name that relates to your ethnic background. Which is cool. But otherwise, i’d probably prefer [name]Julia[/name].
