Ivy- is this name too botanical?

I’m warming up to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]- she’s sweet yet spunky all in the little letters. But is this name to garden-ish? (Poison ivy…teasing potential?)Nobody blinks an eye at [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] but I’m not sure what the consensus is with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

What are your opinions on this sweet name? Is it firmly rooted as a name now like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or would one have to be a little gutsy to use it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it will age well?

Thanks!

So, I’m biased as I have a sweet little [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] of my own:)
I can say that when I was pregnant with my dd I could not get interested in names at all and then I came across [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and I was smitten:) I tend to gravitate towards more popular names so I spent a lot of time overthinking it before I chose it!
it feels whimsical to me, yet serious…intelligent but fun.
It’s uncommon, but familiar. Sweet, yet spunky…I think you do need to be a bit gutsy to use it, but my [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] fits in quite nicely with the other girls in her play groups. (Names like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], even a poppy:)
I think it will age well. I can certainly imagine a teen [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], professional [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and grandma [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion and thoughts! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a very cute name, but I do like that its got a slight zing to it as well. And if you like it, go for it! And don’t worry about teasing, every name can earn an unpleasant nickname ("[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_f]Banana[/name_f]", “[name_m]Peter[/name_m] Pumpkin Eater”, “[name_m]John[/name_m] the Toilet”, even the most popular names are easy targets!)

But, in case you are still unsure, names that are similar to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (which still holds the botanical connection, sorry) or [name_u]Ira[/name_u].

Yet, I do truly like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is too botanical. It has quite a long history of use and so it can be considered vintage.
As for teasing, all names are not 100% safe because children are way more creative and will invent new teases for a child who is an easy target, no matter if she called is [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. So, to me, it isn’t really helpful to pick a name you love less just because one silly boy can say something. And [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] hasn’t got the biggest teasing potential. I think it’s spunky and sweet.

Thanks for all the insight! I think for now it will join [name_f]Nova[/name_f] in my GP list but I’m sure I will fall for this name in due time and then I’ll stick it on my “names I like” list  I’m curious of what my SO will say about this name

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]! I have a friend with a daughter named [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. I especially love it with longer mn’s and really “girly” mn’s. (:

I think of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as sweet, vintage, and yes–naturey. Somehow I’ve never even though of poison ivy in association with this name, i only ever think of ivy on a house or brick building. I don’t imagine an [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] would get teased much for her name. It is very youthful sounding though, so not sure about the aging…

Exactly! Haha I can picture it on a child and on a grandma but not sure about a teenager or adult
