Ivy, Ivory, Ivoryanna?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] has been my top choice for quite some time. Today, [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] has been on my mind. I love the sound of [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] and it has pleasant associations for me. I like Ivoryanna as well. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is my sisters name and I once taught a girl named Ivoryanna and everyone seemed to love her name. I obviously don’t want to saddle a child with a difficult name. I’d like a few honest opinions on [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] and Ivoryanna. Which do you prefer out of the three?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is definitely my favorite. Have you thought of Ivyonna/Ivyanna?

I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] is ok, Ivoryanna is a little much for me, though it does have a kind of southern feel to it, I guess it reminds me of [name_f]Pollyanna[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] best

I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] but I think [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] is nice as well. Ivoryanna is nms and I think it’s going to be nicknamed [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] anyways, so there’s no point in using a full name, especially since [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] is a full name in its own right.

Thanks for the insightful comments. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is still my front runner, but every once in a while I stray from it.

I really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]: A true modern classic. [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] could absolutely work: Very unique, and possibly too associated with the environmental issue, but such a lovely sound. I’m not big on Ivoryanna, though: A little too much, sounds a bit made-up, and too smushed together. Would you consider [name_f]Ivana[/name_f]?

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] hands down.

babies123456 - Ivyonna/Ivyanna doesn’t do it for me as a smush name, but maybe [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f], with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a middle name. Thanks!

danakatherine - When I think of [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], I think of living elephants; peaceful, magnificent… enormous yet graceful. I do see what you’re saying about [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] and Ivoryanna. [name_f]Ivana[/name_f]? I love the sound, but too “Trumpy”. Thank you very much for your comments!

I’m not the biggest fan of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] because I think of a medical IV. My favorite here is [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. It feels vintage, but also modern fitting in with names like [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. Ivoryanna is a like clunky for me.

I’m surprised to say that my vote is actually with [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is ok, but I’ve been seeing a lot of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]’s of late. Ivoryanna makes me thing of [name_f]Rhianna[/name_f] when you say it out loud, so it’s not my top pick just based on popularity alone. Good luck!!

I have mixed feelings about [name_u]Ivory[/name_u]. Aesthetically I find it beautiful: it has a lovely sound and a smooth, pearly sheen to it. I like the fact that it is a little androgynous, and also I have synesthesia and associate most names beginning with I with the colour black, so I like the mixture of black and white imagery that I get here. However, the name does have some tragic associations with the ivory trade, which would personally put me off.

If this is your association, go for it!

As for Ivoryanna, I find this one too much and too confusing. [name_f]Iva[/name_f]-[name_f]Rhianna[/name_f] would actually make more sense to me as a spelling, but it doesn’t have the same feel. Have you considered [name_f]Ivetta[/name_f] or even Iverna, a poetic name for [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]?

I do like the sound of [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], but I unfortunately think of elephant poaching when I hear it, so [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is the clear winner for me. Also, though it’s getting a bit more popular I think it’s still in that sweet spot of not too much so, but still familiar.

As for Ivoryanna, I think if I hadn’t seen it written just next to [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], I’d be a little confused about pronunciation–I’m not sure the [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] would jump out at me, I think I might assume it was from a non-English background and go with [name_m]Ivor[/name_m]-yanna. I think it would be more clear to do [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as a double name (or with [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as an often-used middle name).

For me personally, I’d go with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (using [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as the middle name), but of course these things are all subjective, so I really do think you should follow your heart and what feels best for your little one

Ivoryanna looks and sounds smooshed to me, and I have a hard time imagining it on an adult. [name_u]Ivory[/name_u] is pretty, but I keep coming back to soap.

My vote goes to [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], without a doubt.
