Ivy or Isla?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] or [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and why?

Also, can you think of other names that start with the ‘eye’ sound? (I don’t like [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and [name_f]Irene[/name_f], and I can’t use [name_f]Iris[/name_f])

Thanks!

I really like both [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] wins this time. However I also love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. They give off slightly different vibes for me but similar enough that it makes it difficult for me to choose. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] would probably age slightly better imo and even though it’s more popular than [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (I think) it’s still not a name you hear everyday.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], [name_f]Isis[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f] or [name_u]Ira[/name_u]?

I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Inez[/name_f], which can be pronounce eye-nezz. I like [name_f]Ione[/name_f] too.

I prefer the lovely [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

I love both equally, but because of popularity i’d choose [name_f]Ivy[/name_f].

I love both but i think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is less popular where i live, so i would select [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

Hard choice! I love them both equally! If I had to choose I would probably go with [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. (For sentimental reasons only, when my baby says ‘I love you’ it sounds like “isla oooo” haha!)

[name_u]Love[/name_u] both…but at first glance I would pronounce [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as “ees-luh” (might be that i’m a Spanish teacher)

Both are on my list! As other posters have said, they’re a little a different. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is elegant; [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is spunky.

Another “I” name that hasn’t been mentioned is [name_f]Ida[/name_f], which has the same vintage feel as [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is currently very trendy where I live and in the top five.

I also like [name_f]Ida[/name_f].

I definitely prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. It has more spunk than [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and I feel like I see [name_f]Isla[/name_f] everywhere these days.

I agree with previous posters that [name_f]Ida[/name_f] and [name_f]Iona[/name_f] are beautiful “I” options.
Some that I don’t think were mentioned:
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Idina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ina[/name_f]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
[name_f]Iola[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], softer sounding and has a vintage feel vs. trendy [name_f]Isla[/name_f]

So it looks like the score is [name_f]Isla[/name_f]: 3 and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]: 5, excluding those who said they loved both.

I can’t believe I forgot [name_f]Ida[/name_f]! It’s a lovely name and it would definitely be on my list if I didn’t know like five Idas already haha.

I love @cactusgram’s idea of [name_f]Ione[/name_f]!! A few of you have suggested [name_f]Iona[/name_f], which I like too, but I mostly just hear “I-own-a” as in I own a car.

Does [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] remind you guys of IV, as in the medical term? I sometimes get that association, but not always.

I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

I would go with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]!

I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but they’re both nice! I also really like the name [name_f]Irie[/name_f] (great meaning too).

I like both ivy and isla but I love the sound and spelling of [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Other options are [name_f]Aylin[/name_f] (eye-lin) or [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] (eye-leen).

I never think of an IV when I see [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. I pronounce them differently.

I prefer [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Another name that starts with the “eye” sound is Ayomide.

I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. It is fresh and nature sounding. Always unique and beautiful. Personally, I always find [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] sounding like an old lady.
