Considering Ivy Nicole for our daughter who will be a winter baby. Also love how it fits with the rest of our family names and the fact that it’s known but not too overused where we live.
Was wondering though if Ivy is too reminiscent of Poison Ivy or medical IV? Or are these really issues?
I don’t think IV or poison ivy are too major of associations here. [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is a rising star of the name charts! Popular enough for these associations to be largely overlooked. (Especially if you love in an area—as I do—where poison ivy does not grow at all. If it did grow in my area and was something children were actively warned about, I’d perhaps be more apprehensive).
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is a sweet, green, blithe little name. It’s peppy! I like the name a lot! [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] is a great pick for winter babe. It’s full of imagery!
I personally do think of IV, which is why the name isn’t my cup of tea, but like the previous poster mentioned Ivy is a super trendy name at the moment so I don’t think the association is a dealbreaker by any means!
I wouldn’t say they’re too strong as associations go - the ‘IV’ thing hasn’t ever occurred to me actually! Poison Ivy makes me think of the superhero (edit: supervillain, in fact!) rather than the plant and I feel like she’s in a separate mental box from the name Ivy itself, if that makes sense - I don’t connect them.
I think Ivy is a real sweet spot between vintagey and chic, and I love the nature vibes of it
It’s a such a classic name that IV or poison ivy do not come to mind when I hear it. [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is a lovely name that is making a comeback with other vintage nature names like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. I think it’s a great combination of sweetness and strength with its y ending and nature imagery.
I wouldn’t think of these associations / think they are a problem. I get green foliage imagery with [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], and think of it in the same bracket as [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
Since [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is being used a lot at the moment, I don’t think the Poison [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] and IV association will be a big deal. [name_f]My[/name_f] friend got the Poison [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] thing a bit, and she’s embraced it and dressed as the character!
Those images don’t come to mind at all, only the name [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] and lovely ivy foliage. It’s a well established name so I wouldn’t worry about the negative images.
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u] brings nature imagery to mind for me also. As well as the symbology around faithfulness/loyalty. Interestingly, as my husband and I were discussing the name while walking through a place that’s meaningful to us, it seemed as though ivy (the evergreen, non-poisonous kind!) had woven itself everywhere throughout the landscape. Took this as a sign! Thanks everyone for your thoughtful responses!
I really like [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]! i think that with [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] being quite popular, the associations aren’t too strong. IV or poison [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] are not the first things that come to my mind when i think of the name [name_u]Ivy[/name_u], in fact i’ve never though of the IV association.
Anyone who thinks of a medical IV who doesn’t work in healthcare is a weirdo . [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is lovely! I think of the plant but poison ivy is sort of a fun connection. Maybe its just me…
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] is gorgeous!!! Total dark feminine, glitzy glamorous, sparkly name. I don’t think of either IV or Poison [name_u]Ivy[/name_u]
[name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is beautiful!! I don’t associate her with IV or poision ivy at all- [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] is a common enough name that I don’t think most would make those connections. [name_u]Ivy[/name_u] [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] is perfect for a winter baby!!
