J@ck Sh3pherd

Hello! We would love some honest opinions on this name. It’s taken us a while to decide on a name but we finally chose one- we love both the first and middle name, and we’d be happy calling him by just his first name, both first and middle together, or just middle. However, we just learned that this is the name of a TV character on a popular show. It’s making us wonder if we should re-consider our choice. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I haven’t seen the show so it doesn’t seem odd to me, but naming our son [name_m]Jerry[/name_m] Seinfeld as a first/middle name or [name_m]Chandler[/name_m] [name_m]Bing[/name_m] as a first middle/name- that would be odd! Is this the name thing?? We also love Sh3pherd as a first name a lot, but aren’t sure if we’d be brave enough to use it. We are religious, but using it as a first name almost feels sacrilegious so I’m worrying about that too. Thank you so much for your opinions, we really appreciate it! (And are open to any ideas!)

I think this is a really sweet name! I’ve also considered using [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] as a middle name don’t think I’d use as a first name. I’ve never heard of the character you’re referring to so I must not have seen this show either but since [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] would be the middle name I don’t think it would be an issue!

I love this name. It is strong and handsome. I would not worry one bit about it being a character’s name.

I don’t know the character, so it seems like a great name to me.

J@ck Sheph3rd is a really handosome name! It flows beautifully. It sounds very elegant, timeless and charismatic.
I had never heard of the character you mentioned. After a quick research, I saw that it was in fact a name used in a popular show. However, the show ended in 2010. It was a while ago! In my opinion, that show didn’t have iconic characters like Friends, [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] or The Big Bang [name_f]Theory[/name_f]. I believe your safe! It’s not like you’re naming your son J@ck [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] or Der3k Sheph3rd. In my opinion, even if you were, I actually think that would be pretty cool!
I think you should keep the name! If you love it, use it! In fact, most of the time, your son will be known by his first name or first + last name, even if you decide to call him J@ck Sheph3rd frequently at home. Furthermore, both J@ck and Sh3pherd are very well established names.
Sh3pherd would be a great first name too! Definitely a little more unique and adventurous that J@ck, but still a wonderful choice!

This might not help, but there’s also two actors and a historical prison-escapee with the name (although with slight spelling variations). I say this, because J@ck is a reasonably popular name and I don’t think people would assume you’ve named him after anyone. Plus, I had to google the character/name to find what you meant :person_shrugging:

All in all, it’s a charming, rugged name and I think you should go with it

I had to Google the name. The show has ended awhile ago now it’s not like something will rewatch over again, and again like Friends. I love tv but the are so many shows now it’s hard to keep track of all the characters. I wouldn’t worry about this one.

It is a handsome name and I’m here to encourage you to use it. I’m not familiar with the TV show and TBH, if we look hard enough almost any name can be attached to someone or something we wouldn’t choose to name our child for. You have come up with a lovely name that you love and I see no reason not to use it. All the best!

I think you’re absolutely fine. As PP’s have said, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is such a common name, people will have tonnes of associations for [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I think J@ck Sh3phe3rd makes a lovely first and middle :green_heart: :sheep:
