I am fairly set on [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] for a first name, but need help narrowing down a middle name. My mom’s first name is [name_u]Julie[/name_u], and she’d really like me to use some version of that. I don’t like [name_u]Julie[/name_u] or [name_f]Julia[/name_f], doesn’t sound right at all. She suggested ‘Jul (vs [name_u]Jule[/name_u])’ or ‘[name_u]Jules[/name_u]’. Are those even names? She suggested spelling it ‘[name_f]Jewel[/name_f]’ which I hate and will definitely not use. Is [name_f]Juliann[/name_f] too long? (My mom’s middle name is [name_f]Ann[/name_f]).
Does anyone have any other variations of [name_u]Julie[/name_u] that might work nicely with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? Or other middle names that begin with ‘J’?
I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Juliann[/name_f] but would prefer [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Julianna[/name_f]. Otherwise, maybe [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]?
I think the answer is right there in your signature - [name_f]Julienne[/name_f]! [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Julienne[/name_f] is quite lovely [name_u]Julianne[/name_u] and even [name_m]Julian[/name_m] are great alternatives.
Also, for what it’s worth, I don’t think you should feel obligated to contort your daughter’s name to honor your mother unless YOU want to.
This is rather funny, as my mother is also a [name_u]Julie[/name_u] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]!
[name_u]Jules[/name_u] and [name_u]Jule[/name_u] are names, but clearly you don’t like them that much. [name_f]Juliann[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Julian[/name_m] for me, but I quite like [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], with 1 or 2 n’s. Other suggestions are [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] is top of my list of puddles, to honour my mother and grandmother who has the same middle. I’ve also got [name_u]June[/name_u] and a loose connection to [name_u]Julie[/name_u]. You could also go with [name_u]Joan[/name_u]/[name_f]Joanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] to have both the initial J and the reference to [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. I’m not a particularly fan, but [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] does sound quite nice.
I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Julienne[/name_f]. I would definitely not use [name_u]Jules[/name_u] bc that’s a another word for vaping. So unfortunately her name would mean [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] vapes and that would not be great for her…

This may be a stupid question, but people generally pronounce [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] “[name_u]Jo[/name_u]-lee”, right? Like the famous [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]?
Yes, I think so. As the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for “pretty” it’s a little more like zho-lee, but most folks I speak with on a daily basis (northeast US) would say joe-lee
I know there is a french pronunciation as pp mentioned but I’ve only ever actually heard it said [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-lee (which would be my instinctive pn too)
