As I’ve mentioned everytime I have a chance, Jack is my ultimate favorite male name ever. Closely followed by Henry.
But the thing is, Jane has been growing on me a lot recently. I think it’s a gem. Sweet, familiar, soft, not overused. It’s the femenine form of John, and my father is John (well, not a John but a variant). Jack is a traditional nickname for John, also.
So, Jack and Jane are basically the same name, and if I ever have a boy and a girl, I wouldn’t name them Jack and Jane. Too matchy.
Currently, my favorite girl name is Charlotte.
So the thing is, if you have to choose between Jack and Jane, which one would you pick? Why?
The thing would be…
If the boy is named Jack, the girl would be named Charlotte.
If the girl is named Jane, the boy would be named Henry.
Jack & Charlotte or Henry & Jane?
Can’t decided!
If it helps, middle names would be Jack Peregrine, Henry Alastair, Charlotte Luna and Jane Marigold.
hmm…I personally prefer [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I know so many Charlottes, while [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is much less common right now. [name_f]My[/name_f] dog is actually named [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (I didn’t name her but I love it), and I gave her the middle name [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], but was very back and forth between [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] for a while! I think it’s a gorgeous combo. If you love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] more though that might be your answer.
This is difficult! Both [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are lovely, and the middles are perfect. Although [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] might be what I would choose for me, if [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is your favorite, go with that! [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is also so lovely.
Of course, you can always rethink as your opinions change.
Here’s the thing, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] have become quite common – not too common to use, I’m not saying that. But because they are so popular, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] feel much fresher. (I know of only one [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and not a single [name_f]Jane[/name_f].) In general, I much prefer [name_m]Henry[/name_m] to [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but I still think [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is nice. I also prefer [name_f]Jane[/name_f] to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], though I love graceful [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It’s tough, and I think you should go with the names you love most. However, my choice would easily be [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] .
It seems like you have a plan in the event that either gender is born first. I’d just stick with it. If a girl comes first and then a boy, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. If a boy comes first and then a girl, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Either way you’ll be honoring your dad with the first child’s name. And no sweat if the second child was the same sex as the first because you’ll have already honored your father. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m]/Jane & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] sound great together too.
Were it me, I would have to choose [name_f]Jane[/name_f] because there are 3 Jacks in my family and while I enjoy the name, I don’t need another one.
Oh yes, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is my favourite boy name, but I think I’m liking [name_f]Jane[/name_f] more and more and that’s my dilemma. Hypothetically speaking, If I have b/g twins, who would I name the “[name_m]John[/name_m]” name? I adore [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is such a beautiful name I would hate not using it!
I agree with you. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is beautiful, but also more used than [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is also such a gem!
It seems the more logical thing to do! but, what if they are twins b/g? hahaha Would I used [name_m]Jack[/name_m] over [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] over [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? The firstborn gets the “[name_m]John[/name_m]” name? I’m liking the combo [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] more and more!
There’s a lot of boys names [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. If I were choosing today, it’s be [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but I could very easily be swayed toward [name_f]Jane[/name_f].
Flip a coin, if that happens to be the case. You’ll know which one you want more when the time actually arrives and you find yourself rooting for one or the other before the coin has landed.
Henry and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are better together. If [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is your favorite then go with that. Maybe you won’t have a girl and it wouldn’t matter anyway. Or you could do it where if you have a girl first you go with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and if you have a boy first you go with [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. It’s ok if the names are similar. It’s not [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f].
Henry & [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] each go together so nicely! Since they would honor your dad, maybe ask him what he thinks?
You love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] so much, I think you should use it. It goes beautifully with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and should you have another, [name_m]Henry[/name_m] fits well too. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a sweet combo and then all the names get to be used.
[name_f]My[/name_f] choice individually was going to be [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but when comparing [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] to [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f], my vote has to be for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a lovely classic pair and I love both names, but [name_m]Henry[/name_m] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has a certain charm to it that’s almost impossible to explain! They still feel classic and recognizable but fresher and more alive. I especially think middle names [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] make the names even more charming and fresh, while [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] imo weigh down [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] & [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is just too perfect to pass up!
But ultimately you should go with what makes you the happiest. I love PPs’ suggestions of using Jane or Jack first and then the coordinating name for the next baby. I think if you had b/g twins, I would choose Henry & Jane. Best of luck
I agree with you, I also feel [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] are better middles!
It is a sweet combo! I guess [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] could work, as middle names aren’t use on daily basis, right?
[name_f]May[/name_f] I ask you why you feel [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] don’t fit as well as [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]? It could be because they have different amount of syllables? or different styles?
