Jack

Can [name_m]Jack[/name_m] be a stand alone name or does it need to be a nickname for
john?

I only knew one [name_m]Jack[/name_m] growing up and it was his full fn not a nn.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] can absolutely stand on its own. I know many [name_m]Jack[/name_m]'s and I have to warn you, although I love the name, [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is VERY popular. My daughter has more Jacks at her school than I care to try and count.

Yeah I know it is super popular. Our other name we love is [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. Not sure if that is too “out there”

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a nickname for [name_m]John[/name_m]? I’ve never seen that before. [name_m]John[/name_m] is [name_m]John[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a nickname for [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] to me, which I like more personally. But it does stand on it’s own!

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is very popular as a stand alone (at least in US, UK, [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and Australia) and, as the post above me shows, a lot of people haven’t even heard that Jack’s origins are in John, so they wouldn’t find it weird at all. If you like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] but don’t like [name_m]John[/name_m], or don’t want to name a baby something you don’t plan on calling him, you could cut straight to [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. My grandfather was named John, but he was only ever called Jack his entire life.

I have a nickname-name ([name_f]Molly[/name_f]) and I think after a certain point, some nicknames cross over to be acceptable as stand-alone names. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] has, [name_f]Molly[/name_f] has (I hope), but - for instance - [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] and Cath, for the most part, haven’t. You’re okay with [name_m]Jack[/name_m]

For what it’s worth, I don’t find [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] out there at all! It’s great.

Yes ofcourse [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a nn for [name_m]John[/name_m] but it’s has also been used as a name in its own for many years. I knew a 89 yr old [name_m]Jack[/name_m] who was just that [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
I also have to comment that I [name_f]LoVE[/name_f] [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]! I know one [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] who is 38 and the name definitely suits a man as well as a child.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] can totally stand on its own! Personally, I prefer it as a nickname for [name_m]John[/name_m], but I like just [name_m]Jack[/name_m] too. [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is fantastic, by the way. It’s not too out there, but it’s much more unique than [name_m]Jack[/name_m].

I absolutely love the name [name_m]Jack[/name_m], but don’t really care for [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]. I know a [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] (he’s in his 30’s and his dad is also [name_m]Jack[/name_m])and one of my high school classmates has a son named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (not sure of his middle name, but he’s about 7)

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] can absolutely be a stand alone name. It’s a very popular stand alone name in the US, UK, [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and Australia.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] is classic and can completely stand on its own…
