I’m really like [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] lately but I also like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and so just wanted to compare them because they are both pretty [name_f]French[/name_f] names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to get people’s opinions and also some middle names that go with each.
Nicknames for [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]: [name_f]Jackie[/name_f], [name_m]Jacks[/name_m], [name_m]Jay[/name_m]
Nicknames for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]: [name_m]Mads[/name_m], [name_f]Addy[/name_f] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] (I feel like this one could work for both).
Personally the downside to [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] for me is it feels very dated to the 70s/80s/90s. I grew up with a ton of Jackies, but it fell out of style and I would be surprised to here of a baby [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] now. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], on the other hand, is very timeless. But if that doesn’t bother you, they’re both fine names.
I personally prefer [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]! I agree with the above poster that it’s somewhat dated in the US, however, that actually makes it feel fresher for a current baby to me! It’s classic but still unexpected, which I like.
.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is also elegant, but in my opinion it gets kind of lost in the world of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Madison[/name_f], etc. I also notice you didn’t list [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] as a potential nickname, and I fear that will be a very hard one to avoid if you don’t like it.
.
Overall, both are nice names, but [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] gets my vote!
As a full name, I like [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] a more – sweet but strong, elegant but down to earth. Nicknames [name_m]Mads[/name_m] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] are nice!
That said, I do enjoy nickname [name_f]Jackie[/name_f] though
[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] for sure, mostly because I love [name_f]Jackie[/name_f] for a girl! There are so many Maddie’s today that [name_f]Jackie[/name_f] is a little more unexpected
I prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]! To me, it sounds softer, more melodic and elegant, whereas [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] sounds kind of harsh and nasally to me. I’m also not the biggest fan of [name_f]Jackie[/name_f], but I think [name_m]Mads[/name_m] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] are really cute.
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] for sure! I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a classic whereas [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f], as much as I like her, feels quite dated.
Both are beautiful [name_f]French[/name_f] names, I agree!
[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f] - I love the [name_f]French[/name_f] pronunciation but the [name_f]English[/name_f] one leaves lots to be desired for me. This is my aunt’s name and the jack-kwuh-lyn pronunciation especially makes me cringe! lol. I don’t love most of the nns for her either, and she does feel a bit dated, so she wouldn’t be my pick of the two, but I can see why you are enjoying her! I am fond of [name_f]Lina[/name_f], though!
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] - I am very fond of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] lately - I adore [name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] especially for a nn, but I like [name_f]Addie[/name_f] or [name_m]Mads[/name_m] ok as well. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is my favorite girls’ name, so if these were the only options, I’d go for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Adele[/name_f]! but I do think [name_f]Leni[/name_f] is my favorite nn for her in general - [name_f]Adele[/name_f] feels almost too contrived.
Either way, I’d love to meet a little one with either of these names! Good luck!
